Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid said on Sunday that he may have to undergo another operation on his difficult left knee.

Embi’s knee has never been completely healthy since he injured it against the Golden State Warriors on January 30, 2024. He underwent surgery to repair a broken meniscus seven days later but the problems have remained.

Embiid played in his 16th match on the season on Sunday when he had 27 points, 12 returns and six assists during a road loss on 135-127 to the Milwaukee slopes. It was his third match in six days – he sat out on Wednesday – after missing 15 straight matches because of the knee.

“Every day, take it day by day,” Embiid said after the loss to Milwaukee. “If it gets worse, you have to do something about it. If it is not consistent enough, it is not good enough.”

Embiid, who turns 31 next month, hopes that the knee will hold up through the rest of the season, but 2022-23 NBA MVP indicated surgery outside the season is possible.

“I think the simple answer is that when you have something that is inconsistent, at some point, you have to do something about it,” Embiid said. “We don’t know what it is. We are looking at all options.”

Embiid has been productive when he can get on the floor and is on average 24.8 points, 8.3 returns and 4.5 assists. But his inaccessibility for most of this season has traced the 76th century, which is only 20-32 and is 11th place in the Eastern Conference.
