European captain Anna Nordqvist named Sweden’s Caroline Hedwall and England’s Mel Reid as vice captains for the Solheim Cup 2026 on Monday.
The two-year competition against the United States will take place from September 7-13, 2026 at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands.
Hedwall, 35, has represented Europe at the Solheim Cup five times. This is her first choice as vice captain.
“I was so happy when Anna invited me to be one of her vice captains in 2026 because the Solheim Cup has definitely given many of the most important moments in my career,” she said. “Anna and I have shared so many experiences, both on tour and on European teams together, that I feel that we are very adapted to our thinking about how we can help to ensure that the European team can perform at its best. I believe, together with Mel, we really understand each other and are all very feasty competitors so I am sure that we will work very well together to be our way to work together. “
Reid, 37, played for Europe in the Solheim Cup four times and was vice captain in 2019 and 2024.
“If the Solheim Cup happens, I want to be there for Europe in what way I can contribute,” Reid said. “Some of my dearest core memories have been during a Solheim Cup week and in the European storeroom. I am honored that Anna asked me to be one of her vice captains. I know she will be a fantastic captain, and I am so glad that I will be there to support her and the team and help in some way.”
Nordqvist, 37, of Sweden, has been acquainted with both golfers for many years.
“I have known Caroline and Mel since I was 13 and 17 years old, as such I have had the pleasure of playing with them throughout my career,” she said. “We have had many good memories as teammates and as friends, so I am happy to have them by my side when we take on a new challenge in our golf careers as captains in the Netherlands. They are both very experienced Solheim Cup players, Fiercely Competitive and Fantastic Team comrades.
The United States won the latest edition of the Solheim Cup in Virginia 2024. Angela Stanford will serve as captain of Americans in 2026.
