Mutua Madrid Open returns to life on Tuesday after a city -wide power outage in Madrid, triggered by a “transstation card”, left Caja Mágica without electricity for almost 24 hours.
With Power Restored, day 7 delivered a packed schedule with round of 32 and round of 16 matches at Caja Mágica.
Important results included Lorenzo Musetti’s hard -fighting victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas which contained some Electrifying Shotmaking and Francisco Cerundolo’s upset of top seeds Alexander Zverev, who set the stage for an interesting end to the tournament

Musetti Masters Tsitsipas

Lorenzo Musetti backed up his victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas in Monte Carlo with a 7-5, 7-6 (3) victory at Manolo Santana Stadium.
Down 2-5 in the first set saved Musetti a stock market value and broke Tsitsipas to serve to win 7-5 to take more open.
The second set went to a tiebreak, where Musetti’s 71% first serving efficiency and quality shooting took him to a 6-0 inaccessible lead before seaing a 7-3 tiebreak win.
Tsitsipas fired 28 winners but was undermined by errors, including six double errors, which allowed Musetti to secure its second straight victory over the Greek.
The win marked Musetti’s first Madrid round of 16 since 2022 and his fourth top 20 victory in 2025, and if he continues to play in this form of form, he has a shot on the title.
Cerundolo conquers Zverev

Sascha Zverev was one of my tournament favorites after his title run in Munich, but Francisco Cerundolo had other ideas and maintained its perfect H2H record against the top seed with a 7-5, 6-3 victory.
Zverev has a solid record in Madrid, but in a repetition of their collision last year, Cerundolo came out at the top, in front of just one breaking point and won 81% behind his first serving.
Statistics are quite close, but it looks like Zverev still does not have that confidence in his game, especially on the larger points.
Cerundolo now meets Miami champion Jakub Mensik in the quarter finals.
I am super happy because I know he loves to play here. He told me last year when I beat him. He is an incredible player. I have a good relationship with him, so super happy to have a new win and to be in the quarter finals again. This year I learned to play badly and win matches. I got the capacity to win to play not my best tennis, I’m super happy with what I do this year. Cerundolo on his winnings.
Other matches of notes

Jack Draper (5) Def. Matteo Berrettini (30): Draper won 7-6 (2) before Berrettini retired with abdominal injury (an injury he has often suffered in recent years)
Tommy Paul (11) Def. Karen Khachanov (24): Paul collected from a set to win 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Frances tiafoe (16) Def. Alexandre Muller: Tiefoe cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 victory, advanced to the round of 16 for the first time in Madrid
Alex de Minaur (6) Def. Denis Shapovalov (29): The Minaur secured a 6-3, 7-6 (3) victory, with a strong tiebreak performance to abolish Shapovalov’s shotguns. Aussie is hard to beat right now, which makes its fifth straight champion 1000 round of sixteen and collects his 24th victory in the season.
Jakub Mensik (22) Def. Alexander Bublic. Jakub Mensik continued his impressive ATP Masters 1000 run and secured his ninth victory in a row with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 victory over Sascha Bublik. Mensik is not too different for Berdych, who used to play well in Madrid, and the conditions fit his games.
Daniil Medvedev (9) Overcame Brandon Nakashima (31) 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the round of 16, and survived a first set where his 19 unthreated errors highlighted a dip in his time-elite defense, which forced a more aggressive attitude leading to high errors. Can Meddy get back to his best or has his movement decreased?
Anyway, he sharpened his backhand in the second set, cut down the errors and broke Nakashima three times for a 6-1 route, before securing a crucial break in the third to proceed at Arantxa Sanchez Stadium.
During the night session, Casper Ruud (14) defeated third seed Taylor Fritz 7-5, 6-3, and he is my external choice for the title. Ruud broke Fritz halfway through the first set but met resistance and dressed it 7-5.
In the second set, Ruud in Game Five broke and coasted to victory and won 84% of the points behind his first serving in set two.
