Vasean Allette made two free throw with 2.7 seconds left to secure TCU’s victory 74-70 over Arizona State on Saturday night at Tempe, Ariz.
Allette made four free throwing in the last 11 seconds and finished with 14 points and nine returns.
Freshman Jace Posey led TCU with a career high 20 points from the bench. His father James, a former NBA player who is assistant with Phoenix Suns, was present.
TCU (14-11, 7-7 BIG 12) has won four of its last five matches, while Arizona State (12-13, 3-11) lost its fifth straight and 10th of the last 12.
Arizona State Adam Miller was thrown out with 16:37 left after saying an expletive at Judge Kipp Kissinger, who had called a foul on him.
Miller was also thrown out February 4 to have made physical contact with a Kansas State player.
Posey drove the lane for a can to put TCU forward 67-62 with 1:42 left.
Shawn Phillips Jr. replied with a can.
Posey’s shot on the baseline was blocked by Phillips and the ball went off the border with possession that went to Arizona State.
BJ Freeman accompanied a 3-pointer who tied the game at 67 with 43.3 seconds left.
Noah Reynolds, who had 19 points, responded with a 3-point with 18 seconds left.
Baheer Jihad committed an incoming violation with the foot on the line.
Posey was fouled with 14 seconds left and missed both free throwing.
In the recovery attempt after the second miss, Jihad was fouled.
Jihad, who had 11 points, missed the front of the one-and-one situation and Vallette was fouled with 11 seconds left.
Allette made both the free throw to increase the lead to 72-67.
Alston Mason then made a 3-point with five seconds left.
Allette was fouled after the incoming pass, which led to his playback free throw by 2.7 seconds on the clock.
Freeman led Arizona State with 21 points.
Mason had 12 points and nine assists and Phillips finished with 12 points and eight returns.
Horned Frogs built a lead of 59-46 with 9:52.
Arizona State responded with a 17-4 run that lowered the lead to 63-62 with 3:17 left.
