With the NHL after the NBA and NFL’s management, commissioner Gary Bettman will announce the first rounds for the first time at the 2025 NHL draft, which will be held June 27-28 in Los Angeles, the league announced on Saturday.
Previously served as champion in ceremonies at the draft, the 72-year-old Bettman will take over the role previously placed by each team. This is the first NHL draft with team staff participating from their hometowns rather than personally. The best outlook will participate in the draft and will meet Bettman when their name is called.
“And remember that the clubs asked for this,” Bettman told reporters at Los Angeles King’s home game against Utah Hockey Club on Saturday. “I wasn’t looking for more exposure. I have more than enough. But that’s what the clubs told us they wanted, and we will try it. And we’ll look for this year if everyone likes or not better.”
Following the Coronavirus Pandemic, the NHL draft was a personal event over the past three years, including last year in Las Vegas on the 18,000-seat sphere.
“It was not practical to continue to go back to the sphere for a lot of reasons, including what it costs,” Bettman said. “It was extraordinary. We spent multiples, perhaps exponentially, what we normally spend for a draft. But if we were to finish the way we did it under the old format, we would make it as big as we could.”
When it comes to who can go # 1, the defender Matthew Schaefer from Erie in Ontario Hockey League is among the foremost runners, along with right -wing porter Martone from Brampton in OHL and Center James Hagens from Boston College and Michael Misa from Saginaw in OHL.
