You never hear anyone say “possible preview of the NBA final” when Memphis Grizzlies meet Cleveland Cavaliers. But you cannot exclude Sunday’s collision in Cleveland from being just that.
Cavaliers own the best record in the NBA, and Memphis has the second best brand in the West. It would be refreshing. In addition, no clamps for a Boston Celtics versus a Dallas Mavericks area without Luka Doncic are. Repeat – none.
Jordan Binnington could return to the net for St. Louis Blues on Sunday, so does the American audience give a hero’s greeting to one of Canada’s heroes in the face of the four nations? We assume they will settle for a top-flight performance against Avalanche Colorado.
MLS champion Los Angeles Galaxy opens his season to Expansion San Diego FC, and there is literally no buzz. Ok, so football is not football, but does Champ’s first match have to be as quiet as curling or jai alai?
Memphis Grizzlies at Cleveland Cavaliers
Cleveland has won six straight matches and 10 of their last 11, which has come from an eye-opening 142-105 route for the visiting New York Knicks. The 37-point victory is only Cavalier’s second largest stroke a month-Maverick’s 144-101 lambed on February 2.
Cleveland is 26-4 at home, so who does Lebron James still need? Not this edition of CAVS. Nobody plays Hero Ball in this team. Star Guard Donovan Mitchell is on average 24 points per match-his lowest since 2019-20 with Utah Jazz-But remains an avid passer.
Speaking of passersby, yes Morant of the Grizzlies can throw a dazzling assist at any time but is not always an effective shooter. Morant is 1-for-15 from 3-point intervals during the last three performances. He scored 23 points in Friday’s 105-104 victory over Orlando Magic.
All-Star Jaren Jackson Jr. Blocked a shot to seal that victory over Orlando. Jackson, Morant and Desmond Bane are a winning trio, and they should be able to cover the spread in this matchup.

Colorado Avalanche at St. Louis Blues
Binnington has been criticized this season for a campaign below average, but who will forget that overtime to keep Canada alive before his victory over the United States? This is the same guy who constantly came up big and helped Blues win the Stanley Cup title 2019.
How do you measure the transfer from the epic pile on Thursday to just another NHL season game? Well, he gave up five goals in his last NHL start. This can go both roads – perhaps depending on whether he is emotionally ready.
Avalanche scored four goals for the first period in a 5-0 home victory over Blues on January 31, but Joel Hofer was in the net, not Binnington. Jonathan Drouin had two goals and one assist in that competition.
Colorado lost 2-1 to Nashville Predators on Saturday, with Sam Malinski who scored the lonely goal. Blues are only 2-6-1 in the last nine matches after losing 4-3 in a shootout to Winnipeg Jets on Saturday. Hofer was in the net.

San Diego FC on Los Angeles Galaxy
It is a tough assignment for an expansion team to open against the defending MLS masters. Still, that’s exactly what San Diego FC is facing when it squares against a talented Galaxy squad that divorced with Dejan Joveljic (five goals after the season) and Gaston Brugman (MLS Cup MVP) after winning the title.
Star midfielder Riqui Puig (larger knee surgery) is on the side and he usually seems to be everywhere on the pitch. Joseph Paintsil and Gabriel Pec will carry the attack, along with trade acquisition Christian Ramirez (Columbus Crew).
San Diego has a major attraction in Chucky Lozano, a Mexican national team star who expects to help presence at a stadium just 20 miles from the border. Midfielder Luca de la Torre, a native in San Diego, also expects to make a solid impact.
But can an expansion team be well oiled enough to kill the defending masters? Maybe later in the season, but not now.
