When he comes from the left shoulder operation in November, Dodger’s superstar Shohei Ohtani will serve as the designated hit in his spring training debut Friday against his former team, Los Angeles Angels.
Ohtani, 30, had surgery to repair a broken Labrum in the shoulder and expects to be ready for DH when the reigning World Series Dodgers opens 2025 MLB season on March 18 against Chicago Cubs in Tokyo.
Ohtani was injured and stalled the second base during Dodger’s victory in Game 2 in the World Series. He got away with a Labrum toes in his left shoulder but continued to play in the series against the New York Yankees.
A three times MVP, Ohtani met live pitching on Sunday for the first time this spring. When it comes to pitching, Dodger’s manager Dave Roberts has already ruled Ohtani for the season -opening series but told reporters that he hopes to see the Japanese star return to Haugen “sooner than later.” He has thrown three Bullpen sessions this spring as he works his way back to being a two-way player.
Ohtani, who could not pitch 2024 after going through Tommy John operation last September, Ohtani was named the National League MVP last season after beating .310 with a 1,036 OPS, 54 home races and 130 RBI. He also stole 59 bases to become the first 50-50 player in MLB history.
A former twice American League MVP, Ohtani met 44 home races with 95 RBI for Los Angeles Angels in 2023, while it went 10-5 with a 3.14 era in 23 starts on the hill that season.
For seven seasons as a hitter, Ohtani has a .282 slag average with a .945 OPS, 225 home races and 567 RBI in 860 matches. As a jug, he is 38-19 with a 3.01 era in 86 starts for five separate seasons. He has undergone two elbow operations since he made his MLB debut 2018.
