After one of the worst losses of the season, Creighton looks to get back in track when it travels to Meet Seton Hall on Tuesday in Newark, NJ
Bluejays (20-9, 13-5 Big East) hammered by Xavier 83-61 on Saturday and was hit by their second largest defeat margin this season.
“We haven’t been beaten like this for a long time,” said Creighton coach Greg McDermott. “No one has really made it our defense all year.”
Creighton is tied with No. 20 Marquette for second place in Big East, but the schedule benefits Bluejays during the last week of the regular season – Marquette has to play No. 6. John’s and Uconn.
Creighton overwhelmed Seton Hall 79-54 on January 25 and held the pirates until only 20 second half. Bluejay’s Big Man Ryan Kalkbrenner was unstoppable in that meeting and finished 9-10 from the floor for 23 points. Creighton Sharpshooter Steven Ashworth had 17 points in the competition, including five 3 points and nine assists.
Seton Hall (7-22, 2-16) has dropped four in a row and 13 of the last 14. The pirates are tied with Depaul for last in the conference.
Injuries and experience have judged the pirates this season. Seton Hall is ranked third as the last in the nation when he made a weak 62.2 points a game.
“We never really had a complete list where the guys could play together-someone was always out,” said Pirates coach Shaheen Holloway after Pirates ’71 -61 Loss Saturday to St. John’s. “I’m just upset that we didn’t have a chance to really guess that we could have. I think we could have had a better season than we have right now.”
Sophomore Isaiah Coleman leads the Pirates who score 15.4 points per match, and Senior Dylan Addae-Wusu is Seton Hall’s only other active players on average double figures with 10.5. Chaunce Jenkins has missed the last 11 matches for Seton Hall with a knee injury.
After winning nine in a row, Creighton has now lost three of his last five, but it is still in line for an NCAA tournament.
Limebrenner has received at least 10 points and had a blocked shot for 14 straight matches, the country’s longest active line. Creighton has also made three in 1,049 games in a row.
