Indian wells draw 2025 – perfect tennis

The season’s first Masters 1000 tournament is on us, and 2025 Indian Wells Draw has landed, with Main Draw Play starting on Wednesday, March 5.

There is no Jannik sinker in a draw after Italian negotiated a 3-month ban for his two failed doping tests, and he will return in time for the French Open. This means that Sascha Zverev is the top speed with the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, the other seed, and he strives to make history by joining Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic as the only male players who won three consecutive titles in Indian Wells.

Outside the players, the big story is the surface change from Plexiplave to Laykold, which is also used in the Miami tournament.

Plexiplave has been used in the tennis gardens for the past 25 years, so it is a fairly significant change, and it will be interesting to see how Laykold plays and what type of surface speed the tournament managers have chosen in the top coat.

You can see the entire draw below.

Thoughts on the draw

Indian wells pullIndian wells pull

Top district

Seeded players: (1) Alexander Zverev, (8) Stephen from TSYSPSP, (12) Friends of Types, (18) Ugo Humbert,

Projected quarter final: Alexander Zverev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas

Top seeds Alexander Zverev arrives at Indian wells who want to put their post-Australian open fights behind him and finally crack the quarter-final barrier at this event.

Sascha had a realistic shot at becoming world number one, but his results during the golden oscillation in South America was a disappointment. A decline in shape, or would he rather avoid the luggage to be another world number one without winning a grand sludge?

German has never made it past the last eight in the desert, but with a relatively favorable move he would imagine his chances of doing the latter stages.

After a first round of village, Zverev starts his campaign against either Tallon Griekspoor or Miomir Kecmanovic, two dangerous but retainable opponents. A third round with the large serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard could be a test, as these types of players often do well in the desert.

The quarter finals are where things become interesting. Stefano’s tsitsipas, fresh from his Dubai title, is the calculated opponent. The Greek leads their head-to-head 10-6 but has lost their last two hard-court judgments and, like Zverev, has never been past the quarterfinals in Indian wells.

Second quarter

Seeded players: (4) Casper Ruud, (5) Daniil Medvedev, (10) Tommy Paul, (15) Lorenzo Musetti, (20) Arthur Fils, (23) Jiri Lehečka, (25) Alexei Popyrin, (31) Alex Michelsen

Projected quarter final: Casper Ruud vs. Daniil Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev has not been to the competitions for the past 12 months, but after completing the runner in Indian Wells over the past two years, the Russians hope that desert conditions will give a return to form.

Medvedev begins his campaign against either Nishesh Basavarddy or Yibing Wu in the second round, with Alex Michelsen who is likely to wait for the third. A fourth round of showdown against Tommy Paul or Jiri Lehečka may prove to be difficult, but a quarter final with Casper Ruud is on the cards if he survives.

Ruud, who suffered from food poisoning in Acapulco, will have to navigate past Marcos Giron, Alexei Popyrin and Lorenzo Musetti to book their place in the last eight.

My choice to come through this quarter will be Tommy Paul, Hemmamark, a change in the surface and he made him semi -finals last year.

Third quarter

Seeded players: (3) Taylor Fritz, (7) Andrey Rublev, (11) Ben Shelton, (13) Jack Draper, (17) Felix Auger-Alyiassime, (22) Karen Khachanov, (30) Alejandro Tabilo, (32) Brandon Nakashima

Projected quarter final: Taylor Fritz against Ben Shelton

Taylor Fritz returns to Indian Wells and wants to take the title he won in 2022. The third seed will open his campaign against either Sebastián Báez or a qualification, with a potentially third round against Alejandro Tabilo.

Things will be more difficult if he can do it, as a fourth round against either Andrey Rublev or Felix Auger-Aliassime can test his title details.

Ben Shelton, meanwhile, is chasing his first Masters 1000-krone, and the 22-year-old was able to meet the tricky student Tien in an Alla-American second round before a likely showdown with Karen Khachanov.

Jack Draper can also take part in this section if he is back to full fitness, and Joao Fonseca is always one to look at after his start to the season.

The lower quarter

Seeded players: (2) Carlos Alcaraz, (6) Novak Djokovic, (9) Alex de Minauur, (14) Grigor Dimitrov, (21) Hubert Hurgacz, (24) Sebastian Korda, (26) Francisco Cerúndolo, (27) Denis Shapovalov

Projected quarter final: Carlos Alcaraz vs. Novak Djokovic

Twice the Master Carlos Alcaraz and five times the winner Novak Djokovic heading this stacked section of the draw.

Alcaraz offers to become the first man since Djokovic (2014-16) to win three consecutive Indian well titles, while Djokovic looks at a record-breaking sixth trophy.

Djokovic opens his campaign against either Nick Kyrgios or a torment. A third round meeting with Francisco Cerúndolo could follow before a potential fourth round with Alex de Minaur. Cerundolo has often played well in Miami, so when the surface changes to match it at Hard Rock Stadium it will be interesting if it helps him or if the desert conditions are still the deciding factor.

In the meantime, Alcaraz starts against Quentin Hales before a likely third round meeting with the unpredictable but back-in-form Denis Shapovalov. If he is moving forward, he can meet either Sebastian Kora or Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round, but both are injured too late, with Dimitrov who retires in four of their last five matches.
