Utah HC G Karel Vejmelka signs 5-year extension

Utah Hockey Club goalkeeper Karel Vejmelka signed a five-year contract extension, the team announced on Thursday.

Economic conditions were not revealed by Utah, but TSN reported that the deal is worth $ 23.75 million.

“Karel’s confident behavior helps to set the tone for our team every day,” Utah’s president of hockey operations Chris Armstrong said. “It allows our group to play for their strengths, knowing that he is there to make the key savers. Vej has earned this commitment from our organization, and we are grateful to have him as an important part of our future.”

Vejmelka, 28, is 16-16-4 with a shutdown, a 2.45 goal-to average and .910 Savings percent in 38 matches (35 starts) this season.

He is 60-91-15 with six endings, a 3.26 GAA and .901 SP in 178 career games (166 starts), all with Arizona Coyotes/Utah Hockey Club-Franchise. He was elected by Nashville Predators in the fifth round of the NHL draft 2015 and debuted during the 2021-22 season.

“Karel has been integrated into the success of our team this season,” said Utah General Manager Bill Armstrong. “He is a talented goalkeeper who competes every night he takes the net and has strengthened one of the most critical positions in our team. We are happy to have Karel signed for the next five years.”
