Ross Kemp returns to Eastenders to celebrate the shows 40th anniversary

As Eastenders prepares to celebrate its 40th anniversary, show bosses have confirmed that Ross Kemp will reprise his role as the legendary Grant Mitchell.

After joining the show nearly 35 years ago, Kemp’s character remains “cemented in its rich history” as the complex second arm of the iconic Mitchell brother duo, and the son of one of Walford’s most infamous matriarchs and much-loved landlady, Peggy Mitchell (Barbara Windsor).

Throughout his time on the show, Grant’s complicated and sometimes messy family relationships have seen him place him at the forefront of some of the much-loved soap’s most iconic and memorable storylines, and while the circumstances surrounding his return are currently under wraps, if his past stints are anything to go by to go after, there is bound to be drama…

With brother Phil currently struggling, estranged best friend Nigel back on the square, and ex-wife Sharon now dating her long-lost cousin Teddy Mitchell, it’s safe to say Grant’s return will be nothing short of explosive…

On his return, Ross Kemp said via a BBC press release: “I’m delighted to be returning to EastEnders as the show heads towards its 40th anniversary. EastEnders has always meant so much to me, so to return as the show is about to celebrate a so this special anniversary is an absolute honor. Grant has never been far from the action and let’s just say, this time is no different because he’s really coming back with a bang.”

With Chris Clenshaw, executive producer, adding: “We’re really excited to welcome Ross Kemp back to EastEnders as he reprises the legendary role of Grant Mitchell. While I’m not currently revealing exactly what brings Grant back to Walford, I can say his return will play a significant role in the show’s 40th anniversary, and will make for many moments of truly unmissable television.”
