Wyndham Clark withdrew from the Players Championship in the middle of his second round.
Clark had just finished closing his front nine of the second round by a 4-over 40 when he was shown to shake his hands on playing Partners Jordan Spieth and Danny Walker on the Golf Channel broadcast. No immediate reason was provided for Clark’s withdrawal.
A runner at TPC Sawgrass 2024, Clark shortened an even-pair 72 in the first round Thursday. His second round began to come from the rails with a double-bogey 7 on the pair-5 second hole. He added Bogeys on two of the next three holes before closing the front nine with four consecutive pairs.
Clark is eighth in the official world golfer while he came from a tie for 22nd on last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational. He joins the Australian Jason day in retreating; The winner of Playership 2016 withdrew from this year’s event on Thursday due to an illness.
Spieth, who was originally scheduled to play the first two rounds of Clark and Day, played the back nine on Friday in a Twosome with Walker, who replaced the day in the field.
