Cleveland Browns took a big step towards playing in a new retractable roof stadium in 2028 after the owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam undertook $ 2 billion to make the place happen, reported ESPN Tuesday.

The team published a video with an artist’s rendering of the new stadium and surrounding property, which will be built in nearby Brook Park, near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

The team’s lease at their current stadium, near the center of Cleveland and at the edge of Lake Erie, will go through 2028. The team moved into the arena in 1999.

“Cleveland Browns and our society need and deserve a new home – and from the beginning we have been clear that it must benefit our society and northeastern Ohio positively,” Haslam said in a statement. “The proposed Huntington Bank Field in Brook Park meets this important goal and will reflect positively on our world -class region and its promising future. It also reflects our 100 percent commitment to keep the browns in their home market in future generations.”

Browns has made the playoffs just three times since the franchise was restored in 1999. They were 3-14 in 2024 while they started to four different quarterbacks, including Deshaun Watson and Jameis Winston for seven games per piece.

The previous version of the Browns franchise played at Cleveland Stadium 1946-95.
