Spring Training Roundup: Pirates loads past Phillies

Javier Rivas met a walk-off-SOLO home run to complete a three-run uprising and hand over Pittsburgh Pirates a 3-2 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies in spring training on Tuesday in Bradenton, FLA.

Spotsless through eight, the pirates came on the board with a pair of RBI sacrifice flies by Nick Yorke and Bryce Johnson before Phillies-Reliever Josh Hjoska (0-1) replaced Devin Sweet and Rivas blasted the game winner on the left.

Joey Bart and Adam Frazier finished with two hits per piece for Pittsburgh. Wilkin Ramos (1-0) beat the eighth and ninth round and found two without one hit.

Nick Castellanos ran in Phillie’s runs on a solo shot in the first and an infield single in sixth. Starter Cristopher Sanchez lasted five rounds, with two strikes and four hits.

Tigers 6, twins 5

Detroit made three at the top of the ninth and excavated out of a 5-0 hole to host Minnesota in Fort Myers, FLA.

Thayon Liranzo worked an 11-ton height walk to load the bases at the top of the ninth against Jhoan Duran (0-1) and, after a pitching change, pushed Ben Malgeri over a walk with a walk. Brady Allen’s Grounder was started to get two runners.

The Justyn-Henry Malloy hit a two-run single to get Tiger’s crime running, and Reliever Troy Watson (1-0) threw a hitless eighth for victory. Edouard Julien had two hits, including one double, and two RBI to lead the crime of the twins.

Red Sox 4, Yankees 4

Anthony Volpe met two RBI singles for New York when it went to visit Boston in Tampa, FLA.

Volpe’s second single got an extra runner thanks to a field error in the middle of Trayce Thompson, which made it 4-2 Yankees. Roman Anthony beat a driving single in seventh and Rob Refnyder band with a bag fly in the eighth.

Masataka Yoshida met a two-run Homer for Red Sox while Walker Buehler worked five rounds and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits, Fanning Four. Max Fried threw 4 1/3 speechless frames with two hits and knocked out three for Yankees.

Marlins 4, Cardinals 4

The Cardinals turned a two-run deficit into a 4-3 lead with an RBI base followed by Pedro pages and Jose Fermin’s Back-to-Back-Homers. Miles Mikolas threw six rounds and allowed three runs on six hits and two walks and knocked out four.
