Miami Open 2025 Day 2 Recap

The Miami Open 2025 round of 128 ended on Thursday, and it was a bad day for the American contingent, with four of the five in action that lost.

One of them was inevitable when Reilly Opelka defeated Wildcard Christopher Eubanks, but Giron, Tien and Brooksby fell at the first obstacle.

Tien was part of today’s most awaited match against Joao Fonseca, with the Brazilian prevailing in three sets in front of a glowing audience.

Conversely, the Italians enjoyed a successful round when Arnaldi, Sonego and Dardieri prevailed. Flavio Cobollio spoiled the 100% record, and since the United Cup he has lost in the first round of seven consecutive tournaments – a disaster record.

Fonseca tops Tien

Joao Fonseca, who was fresh a Challenger 175 title in Phoenix and a Career High No. 60 in the ATP Ranking, attracted the predominantly pro-Latin American audience at Hard Rock Stadium on Thursday and pulled off a 6-7 (1), 3-6, 6-4 comeback victory over Learner.

Miami can be transformed into a carnival atmosphere when someone from South America plays, and there were Brazilian flags in abundance when Fonseca screwed out of the gate and broke early with its punitive advance.

But we saw earlier this season that the Tien is the brick wall out there, and he turned it around, absorbed Fonseca’s power and beat back with exact grounds to catch the first set on a Tiebreak 7-1.

Momentum was now on the American side. Still, at 1-2 in the second set, he made a costly double error, and Fonseca took advantage of full advantage and maintained the advantage of taking the second set 6-3.

When he led 3-2 the decision with a break in his hand, Fonseca suddenly demanded the doctor, dizzy and on the way of vomiting.

After a six-minute break and a few pills, he maintained the break, and despite cramping in the last game, he held stuck to move into a 3-0 H2h lead.

I knew it was going to be a difficult match. The teacher is a great fighter – he knows how to play, he is very smart. I needed to go to the end, and I just went for it hard. The Brazilian audience was with me today. I always try to be aggressive with my forehand. When I was younger I would go for it on great points and hit the fence. Now I work to be aggressive and solid. In the important moments I trust it. Fonseca on its victory over Tien.

In other documents, Jakub Mensik Overfilled Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 after ending up 23 ESS and winning 84 percent of their first serving points.

Italians Lorenzo Sonego, Matteo Arnaldi and Luciano Däri advanced all. Sonego released Mariano Navone 7-5, 7-5 to set a second round with third seed Taylor Fritz. Arnaldi overcame Wu Yibing 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-3, while Däri competed past Pedro Martinez 6-4, 6-1.

Reilly Opelka’s return to Masters 1000 Action After two years, the large serving American edge looked out Wildcard-Eubanks in a narrow second set tiebreak. He has Matteo Berrettini next, so expect more from a serve party.

Today’s upset? Bu yunchaokete takes Norrie down in straight sets. Norrie, a former top 10-Stalwart, could not find an answer, and if Bu replicates his pure striking screen, he can cause Taylor Fritz problems in round 2.
