Djokovic delivers mouse masterclass

DjokovicDjokovic

Novak Djokovic drove into the Miami Open quarter final on Tuesday evening and delivered a 6-2, 6-2 masterclass against 15th seed Lorenzo Musetti.

Djokovic is looking for a record seventh Miami title, but this is the first time he did the last eight since 2016 and the first time he has finished at Hard Rock Stadium.

I like how Novak hits the ball this week, especially his backhand. He turned a sluggish start into a clinic and won nine straight matches from 0-2 to seal one hour, 23-minute victory.

Musetti did the quarter final last year, and he came out and broke early. But when Novak found his track, he was able to dictate from the baseline and establish a much stronger court position. He met Zero Break points after losing his opening service game while breaking Musetti seven times.

Next up: Sebastian Kora, who fought past Gael Monfil’s 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 earlier in the day. Korta played in front of his home crowd and let a lead slip and saw play off with rain while he was up a break in the third, but the 23-year-old held on to the resumption.

I was starstruck! It was fantastic to see First Delpo, obviously a long friend and a rival, so happy to have him around and get his support from the box. It was amazing, it was [the] The first time to have Delpo in the box, so I really want to thank him for coming. And Serena, it was a surprise. I didn’t know. Actually, when I had the downturn that passed, I pointed to her and asked her if it was okay. She said type, “Yes, it was good”. If Serena says it was good, it was fantastic according to everyone else’s standards. So yes, good to have them, he had a really good start to the match. The first couple games I started a little slow and then I knew that if I give him time he will make his pictures. He loves to run around his backhand and strike. But he is so talented, he can play all the shots in the game on any surface. It was tough, especially in the first seven, eight matches in the match. But I think it was a momentum shift and I tried to use it. Djokovic on his victory over Musetti.

Cerundolo conquers Ruud

Francisco Cerundolo revenge his loss to Casper Ruud at Miami Open 2022 on Tuesday and conquered the fifth seed 6-4, 6-2 to storm into its third quarter final in four appearances at the hard judgment Masters 1000.

Cerundolo has played very well during Sunshine Double, and his 87-minute triumph indicated that he has no intention to slow down as he enters Wednesday’s quarterfinals.

The Argentine was the stronger player from the beginning and broke 3-3 with his fourth breaking point before he stuck to take the first set.

He then turned on the afterburners in the other and competed for a 5-1 lead with a barrier of winner. A three-hour, 30-minute rain delay prevented him from sealing the deal there and then, but it did not trace his rhythm when he returned unclear to catch it 6-2.

Ruud, who is not really up to its level from a few years ago and continues to see that his serving tore apart on the return, had no answers for Cerundolo’s relentless baseline pressure and handled only a breaking point chance in the match. The clay season will be crucial to him.

Next up for Cerundolo: 14th seed Grigor Dimitrov, which opened Tuesday’s schedule at Grandstand with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Brandon Nakashima.

I like the city. I like Miami. I always thought it was good since the first time I came here. Many Argentine fans and Latin Americans. I spend a lot of time of good quality outside the court and it is probably something that inspires me to play well. I’m super happy. It’s always difficult when you play a really good match, checking the game and you have to stop for rain. It’s not easy, but I was chilly and came back to the match self -confidence and played a really good service game. I am super happy to get back-to-back masters 1000 quarter final in the US, in tough courts. It’s a great achievement Cerundolo on his winnings.

Elsewhere, Matteo Berrettini can out 10th seed Alex de Minaur in a 6-3, 7-6 (7) in another roller coaster.

Berrettini saved three sets of 4-5 in the second set, wasted three match points when he led 6-5, saved another three points from 3-6 in the tie break and converted his fifth match point to take 9-7.

Italy’s two-hour victory in one minute sets up a quarter final collision with Taylor Fritz, who sent Lucky Loser Adam Walton 6-3, 7-5. Fritz, the third seed, improved to 21-0 against players outside the top 80 since 2024, and he looks in better form after his forehand winged in Indian wells.

Sebastian Korta surpassed Gael Monfils in a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 battle that extended over two hours and 11 minutes, with a rain delay to the tension. Korta, the 24th seed, took the first set with a single break, but Monfils, who had spent over six hours on the court over his three previous matches, roared back to smooth out the match and fed by the Butch Bichholz audience.

In the third set, Korta broke early, but the game was interrupted with him that led 4-3. After the resumption, the American held the company and closed the match without meeting a breaking point in the decision. Chord, who withdrew from doubles because of the wrist (probably), is facing Djokovic next, so it will be interesting to see if it plays a role or if it was double playing other violin as usual.

In a tightly questioned match, Grigor Dimitrov overcame 31st Seed Brandon Nakashima 6-4, 7-5. The 14th seed, a 2024 finalist, broke Nakashima late in the first set with a well-constructed point, then the weather out a storm in the second, with his full court game to make the difference, when he beat 28 winners, broke at 6-5 to seal the match after an hour and 52 minutes.
