Patriots deals with Joe Milton III to Cowboys to avoid QB controversy

New England Patriots traded Quarterback Joe Milton III and a seventh round to Dallas Cowboys for a fifth round of election last week.

It was something of a surprising feature, since the requested price of the patriots was considered much higher for a fun, athletic view that was considered very high.

In Milton’s lone start last season for the patriots, the same athletics and big arm as he showed during his college career at Tennessee was at full show.

So why did New England dump him for nothing?

According to Masslive.comKaren Guregian, “Milton liked herself a start.”

He did not see a way to compete with a sitting start -quarter back Drake Maye, which the patriots chose in the first round of last season’s draft. Milton thought he could compete with Maye during the season and eventually overthrow him for the starting job.

So the patriots nipped the quarterback accounts in the bud before it could even start and send him to Dallas for a late draft election.

But Milton didn’t come exactly here, right?

Unless the cowboys decide to surprise everyone and buy Dak Prescott, Milton will still be the backup quarter hill in Dallas. Sure, we see surprises all the time – especially around the NFL draft.

Prescotts cowboys have been underperforming. But if they are shopping for Prescott now, it would be too significant draft of capital. In all likelihood, they would have an eye on yet another young QB if they moved from Prescott.

Prescott is 31 years old. Milton is only 25. For cowboys, they will have an incredible look at an exciting young player to serve as their backup -quarterback. Remember that this is the same organization that gave Trey Lance a shot at the NFL redemption behind Prescott last season.

Since the pandemic, the cowboys have been forced to start Lance, Cooper Rush, Garrett Gilbert, Andy Dalton and Ben Dinucci. Prescott has not been exactly the most accessible QB in NFL.

But this feels much less about the cowboys and much more about the patriots. New England is entirely focused on building around Maye, and having the threat that Milton who trouble in the shadows is an unnecessary distraction for the new head coach Mike Vrabel when he looks to build a culture with the patriots.

Vrabel wants players who want to be in New England, and there is nothing wrong with it at all.
The last thing the patriots need right now is a controversy. Maye showed signs of being a promising NFL start, but it made Milton in a much smaller sample size.

If we know something about NFL fans, it is that they love to thump the table for the backup -quarter hill at the moment the starter is fighting. But isn’t that exactly how Patriots fans were introduced to Tom Brady after Drew Bledsoe went down?
