After failing to deliver a quality start in its last start, Philadelphia Phillie’s Pitcher Zack Wheeler will try to recover on Sunday afternoon.
He will take Haugen against the Cardinals in the rubber match in a three-game series at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The Cardinals won 2-0 Friday night, then replied Phillies with a 4-1 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Wheeler (1-0, 3.44 era) allowed five runs on eight hits and three walks in 5 1/3 rounds against Braves in Atlanta on Tuesday.
It snapped his 13-match line in six or more rounds and two or fewer runs allowed. A field miss in the field opened the door for Sean Murphy to meet a three-run Homer against him.
“Not being able to carry down and get out of that inning undamaged, it made me angry.” Said Wheeler. “Such things happen, you have to stay focused. I have done it for a while now and such things have happened during my career. So you are proud to be pride as a jug,” okay, I will get us out of this. “And it just didn’t happen.”
Wheeler is 4-3 with a 2.63 era in eight career starts against the cardinals.
Phillie’s manager Rob Thomson mixed his batting order in this series and moved dropping the third bass man Alec Bohm to place no. 7 Friday and no 8 place Saturday.
Bohm snapped his 0-for-19-row with a single and a run Saturday. He entered the game in a 4-for-43 decline.
“Really the only bats that are not good are the ones I turn out of the zone, and I don’t do it lots,” Bohm said. “Get the pitch that I will turn on and I have put that ball into play.”
The Cardinals will close the series with the left hand Matthew Liberare (0-1, 5.84 era). In his first two starts, he allowed early runs before entering into giving the team valuable innings.
Manager Oliver Marmol saw it as progress for Liberator, who tries to establish himself as a starter after he previously swung between the rotation and the bullpen.
“Everything won’t be perfect,” Marmol said. “You have to find out a way to break through some traffic and get through these rounds and still go back out and throw up zeros. He has shown the ability to make it up to this point.”
Liberator is 0-0 with a 4.35 era in seven career appearance against Phillies, including a start.
The Cardinals adjusted their range in this series after losing card stop Masyn Winn to back spasms. He landed on the 10-day injured list and was replaced on the guard list by Nolan Gorman, who came from 10-day IL after recovering from a hamstringstam.
In Winn’s absence, Thomas Saggese and Brendan Donovan will play card stops. Gorman will play the second base and see even appointed hitter duty.
Gorman fled out like a pinch Hitter Saturday in his return to action.
“He’s glad we don’t string this and send him down to get bats,” Marmol said. “He pressed to be back. Although this didn’t happen, he really pushed us to be back today.”
