San Diego Padres placed veteran emigrant Jason Heyward on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to left knee inflammation and promoted Outfielder Tirso Ornelas from Triple-A El Paso.
The 35-year-old Heyward, who has beaten .190 with a Homer and six RBI in 17 matches this season, joins the center fields Jackson Merrill (right hamstringstam) and Brandon Lockridge (left Hamstringstam) on the injured list. Heyward showed up in 11 consecutive matches before he needed to sit outside on Friday night to address the knee problems.
The 25-year-old Ornelas signed for a bonus of $ 1.5 million in 2017, but is still in search of his Major League debut. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound left-handed hit has taken up 28 Homers and a .291/.367/.462 Slash in 203 matches over four seasons for El Paso.
Ornelas has posted a .281 average with a Homer and seven RBI in 17 matches in Triple-A this season.
