Kodai Senga threw 5 2/3 speechless Innings Saturday and Pete Alonso continued his hot start by beating in two runs when the New York Mets dropped the visiting St. Louis Cardinals 3-0.

Senga (3-1) allowed only three hits, went two and found four in an 89-ton performance. Three easier ended from there, with Edwin Diaz who beat a ninth 1-2-3 to get their fifth rescue.

Matthew Liberator (1-2) hit well but saddled with the loss, lasted 6 2/3 rounds and allowed two runs of six hits. He went one and knocked out six.

The only inning where Liberator experienced problems was the third, when New York got the only runs it needed. Luisangel Acuna led with a double to the right-middle and was still in second place with two outs when Juan Soto swung a hanging curve in the middle for an RBI single.

Alonso followed by lacing an outer quick ball to the wall in the left center and Soto did first from and put two runs on the board that St. Louis could not compensate. Its best opportunity came on eighth when it filled the bases against set-up man aj minter via three walks.

Alec Burleson’s hard grounder in the middle looked as if it could come to the midfield but short stop Francisco Lindor had other ideas. Lindor, which extended to the right field side of the second base, gloves, spun and threw a seed to first get Burleson with one step.

Alonso added insurance in the last of the eighth when he crushed a solo shot to the left field, his sixth of the season. The ball traveled an estimated 443 feet and gave Alonso 23 RBI in 21 matches. No other meter has come to 10 yet.

Rookie Shortstop Thomas Saggese doubled twice for the Cardinals, while Soto and Alonso each had two of New York’s eight hits.

Mets third basseman Mark Vrentos left the match after four rounds with what the team called vanin problems.
