Philadelphia Phillies has generally flourished on crime while they won eight of their first 12 games this season.
The biggest exception to the team’s solid start at the record is the third bass man Alec Bohm, who is 1-for-23 in the last five games and releases its average to .160. He met .280 with 15 homers and 97 RBI last season.
The Phillies want to get Bohm back on the right track during the three-game road series that opens Friday to St. Louis Cardinals.
Philadelphia manager Rob Thomson moved Bohm from remediation to No. 7 in the order against Braves in Atlanta on Thursday, and Bohm ended 0-for-5 when Phillies lost 4-2 in 11 rounds. Nick Castellanos took over in place # 4.
“I’m just trying to take some warmth from Bohmer, and Castys turns the bat well,” Thomson said. “That’s really what it comes to.”
The move came after Bohm went 0-for-5 with four strikes on Wednesday when Phillies beat Braves 4-3.
“(He is) probably disappointed,” Thomson said. “He likes to beat where he beats. But I think he also realizes that he does not swing the bat as he normally does.”
Castellanos did not justify the remediation site, as he went 0-for-5 with five strikes on Thursday.
Phillies will open the weekend series with Aaron Nola (0-2, 6.35 era) on Haugen. He met with the quality start meter while he allowed three runs in six rounds during a 3-1 loss to Los Angeles Dodgers in his last excursion.
Nola, however, was not proud after allowing seven hits, two of them homers, in Saturday setback.
“The ball was up today,” Nola said. “(I) struggled to get the fasting bale down in the zone, especially my four-seam. Curv ball was not so sharp today. They took some good pitch. I made some good pitch when I needed, with guys on the base, but other than I was a bit of a bit today.”
Nola is 8-3 with a 2.56 era in 13 career start against the Cardinals.
St. Louis, who started the season by swiping a three-game home series against Minnesota Twins, has gone 2-7 since-with four of these losses coming in extra rounds.
The Cardinals went 1-5 on their just the same road trip to Boston and Pittsburgh. They covered that trip by taking a frustrating 2-1 loss to the pirates in 13 rounds on Wednesday afternoon.
“(We have) played a lot of extra-inning games,” said Cardinal manager Oliver Marmol. “Unfortunately (we have) come up at the wrong end of some of them. But I like how we have planned to go through, and the guys’ execution has been really good. I feel it is heading in the right direction.
“Do you want to win more games on this trip? Absolutely. But if you look under the hood, there are many positive effects, so you have to continue to build on these.”
The cardinals are now facing a challenging six-game home, divided between Phillies and Houston Astros. They will open with Andre Pallante (1-0, 3.86) from Friday.
The right -hander has worked only 9 1/3 rounds in his first two starts. Pallante knocked out six strokes in 4 1/3 rounds of two-run ball in St. Louis’ 5-4, 10-inning Loss on Boston on Sunday. But he went three strokes and needed 92 seats to get 13 outs while he consistently entered deep bills.
Pallante is 0-1 with a 7.45 era in six career trips against Phillies, including a start.
