Anternee Simons pours 30 when Blazers Blitz Wizards

Anternee Simons scored five 3 points and got 30 points to help Portland Trail Blazers Notch a victory 112-97 over the visiting Washington Wizards on Monday evening.

Shaedon Sharpe netted 16 points while Deni Avdija and Duop Reath made 15 when Portland (30-39) won their second straight match. Trail Blazers are three matches behind the 10th place Dallas Mavericks, who has the last Western Conference Play-in position.

Donovan Clingan had 11 points and 13 returns and Scoot Henderson also got 11 points for Portland, which is 2-1 on a seven game home.

Alex Sarr received 20 points for Washington, who failed in his bid to match a season best three-game winning line.

Tristan Vukcevic added 17 points, while Jaylen Martin and Kyshawn George each had 11 points for the magicians, who are 3-3 on a seven-game road trip.

Portland shot 42.4 percent from the field, including 15 out of 46 (32.6 percent) from 3-point intervals. Matisse Thybulle had nine points and five steals in its second look of the season after recovering from a knee and ankle injury.

The magicians made 41.3 percent of their shots and were 12 out of 40 (30 percent) behind the bow.

Jerami Grant (knee) and Toumani Camara (calf) set out for Portland. Marcus Smart (illness) was looking for the magicians.

Washington was beaten by eight early in the third quarter before Trail Blazers went on a 17-5 wave.

Henderson lost a 3-pointer to give Portland a lead of 81-64 with 4:58 left during the third quarter before Sharpe thumped and Kris Murray shared two free throw to end the driving.

Trail Blazers led 89-70 into the fourth quarter, and Simons soon made five straight on a tri-thump to increase the gap to 96-72 by 10:23 in the match.

Washington later drew in 108-97 on a 3-pointer by Vukcevic with 2:16 to play, but Clingan sank back-to-back baskets to stop Wizards Rally.

Simons got 16 first half points to help Portland lead 59-49 at the break. Sarr had 10 points in half for Washington.

The game was tied to 43 during the first half before Simons got the first 10 points in a 13-0-sheath. Avdija emptied a 3-pointer to meet the Speet for a 56-43 lead with 1:18 left.
