Fifth-seeded Alex Michelsen gathered for a second round on the second round on Thursday at the US Men’s Clay Court Championship in Houston, which gave us players all eight quarter finals in the event.

Michelsen came from behind to beat France’s Adrian Mannarino 6-7 (0), 6-4, 6-2.
Second-seeded Frances Tiafoe came past Australia’s Adam Walton 7-5, 6-3 and Fourth-seeded Brandon Nakashima dropped Mackenzie McDonald 6-1, 7-5 in an All-American business.
Christopher Eubanks won his first set 6-1 before the Japanese eighth seed Kei Nishikori retired due to injury.
The quarter finals will consist of Jenson Brooksby vs. Aleksandar Kovacevic, top seeds Tommy Paul against Colton Smith, Eubanks against Nakashima and Michelsen against Tiafoe.

No. 1 Frö Tallon Griekspoor in the Netherlands needed three sets to move on to the quarter finals, while No. 2 Frö Lorenzo Sonego in Italy was pulled out in Marrakech, Morocco.
Griekspoor needed two hours and 23 minutes to send the Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta 7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-3, and beat 13 aces along the way.
The Czech White Copriva over the period saved 6 out of 10 break points on the way to a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 victory over Sonego in two hours and 42 minutes. Kopriva had fewer winners than SoneGo (24-21) but also fewer unmatched errors (40-35).
Two other Italians did better than Sonego on Thursday. No. 7 Seed Luciano Däri gathered past the Frenchman Hugo Gaston 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 and No. 8 Mattia Bellucci beat the French qualifier Pierre-Hugues Herbert 6-2, 7-5.

In a match that was postponed from Wednesday by rain, No. 1 Seed ended Sebastian Baez from Argentina from Canada Gabriel Diallo 7-6 (5), 2-6, 6-2 in Bucharest, Romania.
Diallo had a 4-1 edge in ESS, but Baez saved 5 out of 9 breaking points while converting 4 out of 6 breaking point options.
No. 2 Frö Pedro Martinez from Spain collected past the Swiss wild card Stan Wawrinka 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 and Bosnia and Herzegovinas Damir Dzumhur was a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 winner over Romania’s Filip Cristian Jianu.
Australian Christopher O’Connell threw fourth seeds Nicolas Jarry from Chile 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (5)-discharges from a 3-0 deficit in the third set-tiebreaker-and Marton Fucsovics of Hungary of 7 Mariano Navone from Argentina 4-6.
