“I thought our effort was really there,” said Columbus coach Dean Evason. “Maybe there is an element of not playing any games and some juggling a bit with a few different players, but after saying it we still have to get the job done, we still have to play as we play and we have to stay with how we play the game. ”

Elvis Merzlikins made 18 rescues for Blue Jackets, which was without their best defensive mating of Zach Werenski and Dante Fabbro. Each set out due to upper body injuries.

Werenski is hesitant for Thursday, while Fabbro will reportedly miss two to three weeks.

Utah, who finished Wednesday six points from a Western Conference Wild slot, is 4-4-2 in the last 10 and 13-10-3 on the road this season.

“We still think a lot,” said Utah coach Andre Tourigny. “We know right now, we need some help. We didn’t take the straight line, but we can do it, and we will fight for it.

“And now we have to walk on the road and have one (heck) of a drive.”

Clayton Keller has a team -leading 39 assists and 57 points in 52 games this season. Utah captain and Guenther share the team with 18 goals per piece.
