Following the devastation of the California wildfires, Beyoncé’s BeyGood Foundation has stepped up to provide critical support to those affected by the devastation. The “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” singer’s foundation donated $2.5 million to the Los Angeles Fire Relief Fund, according to a post on Instagram.
The non-profit organization, which was founded by Beyoncé back in 2013, wrote in support of the city, writing “Los Angeles we stand with you.” This donation comes after the singer’s mother, Tina Knowles, announced that she lost her Malibu home to the devastating fires.
She took to to share the heartbreaking news, writing: ‘It was my favorite place, my sanctuary, my sacred Happy Place. Now it’s gone!!’ In her post, she expressed gratitude to the brave firefighters who risked their lives and also shared her grief for those who lost loved ones and their homes. Despite the devastation, she ended on a hopeful note, saying: ‘I pray diligently for our beautiful city of Los Angeles! However, we are resilient and we will recover!’
The fires started on January 7 and have since destroyed countless homes and killed over two dozen people. The LA Fire Relief Fund is “earmarked to assist families in the Altadena/Pasadena area who lost their homes, and to churches and community centers to address the immediate needs of those affected by the wildfires,” according to the BeyGood Foundation post.
Many other celebrities have expressed their support for Los Angeles following the tragedy, and several have also lost their homes. Jamie Lee Curtis, for example, pledged to donate $1 million from her family foundation to support those affected. Jennifer Garner took another effective approach by working with chef José Andrés and his non-profit organization, World Central Kitchen, to serve food to those affected.
