BIG 12 TOURNAMENT ROUNDUP: NO. 16 West Virginia, No. 8 TCU Forrech to Semfinals

Sydney Shaw met two free throw with 11 seconds left to secure no. 16 West Virginia 73-69 victory over No. 20 Kansas State in the quarter final in Big 12 Women’s Basketball Tournament on Friday in Kansas City, Mo.

The rock climbers (24-6), sowing fourth, used an 8-0 run during the fourth quarter to take the lead and hold. They will meet TCU in Saturday’s first semi -final.

The fifth-seeded Wildcats (26-7) jumped to a lead of 33-23 during the first quarter and connects to 5-of-6 from 3-point range. They slowed down during the second quarter, but they still shot 66.7 percent from the field during the first half and led 44-36.

West Virginia was led by JJ Quinerly with 24 points, including a jumper for a 71-69 edge with 45 seconds left in regulation. Jordan Harrison added 19 and Shaw had 13. K-State was led by Kennedy Taylor with 21 from the bench and Starter Temira Poindexs with 16.

No. 8 TCU 69, Colorado 62

This year’s Big 12 Player of the Year had Hailey Van Lith his 13th 20-point game for the season to lift the top-noticed horned frogs past the ninth seeded buffalo in the quarter final. Van Lith was 5-for-11 from 3-point intervals and ended with 24 points.

Colorado (20-12) used a 10-0 run halfway through the fourth quarter to help trim a 57-44 deficit into a game with one place, but the buffalo could not get over the hump.

It took a while for TCU (29-3) to be unlocked. But a couple of 3 points by Van Lithy late in the first half gave the frogs a pipe that they would not refrain from. The buffalo shot better in the game from the field, 54.3 percent to 44.8 percent, but the frogs tried another 12 shots.

The buffalo was led by Jade Masogayo with 22 points. TCU also got 18 points from Sedona Prince and 13 from Donovyn Hunter.
