Toronto Blue Jay’s right -hander Jose Berrios has a chance to make changes for his loss of opening day when he is facing the visiting Washington Nationals on Tuesday evening.
Berrios allowed three homers and six runs in a 12-2 setback to Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, when Blue Jays opened the season at home.
“I didn’t run my places,” Berrios said. “I tried, but I didn’t, and they also had a good day in the box.”
When he went for his first victory in the season, Berrios can also help Toronto win its first series. Blue Jays published a 5-2 victory Monday in the opener of their three-game set with citizens.
Toronto shared four matches with Baltimore, and citizens lost two of three at home against Philadelphia Phillies to open their season.
Berrios (0-1, 10.80 ERA) is 1-1 with a 3.50 era in three career starts against citizens.
He will oppose the national right -wing dealer Trevor Williams, who will make his first look in the season. Williams (6-1, 2.03 ERA 2024) has a career start against Blue Jays, which allows four runs (three earned) over six rounds in 2017.
Blue Jays continued to get strong offensive performances from Andres Gimenez, a Gold Glove Second Baseman acquired in a seasonal trade with Cleveland Guardians.
Gimenez has beaten fourth and leads the team with three home runs in five matches. He reached the base in all four plate performances on Monday with a homer, double, walk and a hit at pitch. He beats .333 with five RBI.
“I’m Trying to Be Myself, The Same Hitter,” Gimenez Said, “It does not Matter if I’m Leadoff or Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh. My Last Four Years in Cleveland, I WAS HOW HEWE ITING ALSAWE is just to try to help the team, wherever (manager John schneider) decides to put me in the lineup, I’m going to try to do my best and be myself in the box. “
National’s crime on Monday was limited to a couple of home purchases by CJ Abrams and James Wood with one in the sixth round against Bowden Francis, who had not allowed a hit until that point. National Manager Dave Martinez said he thought his hitters were starting to be better at being ready for the fast ball as the game continued, and that would help in the last two games in the series.
Citizens’ Starter Michael Soroka was removed from the game at the bottom of the sixth round after making three places for the first batter.
Martinez said after the match that Soroka had cramps in his right biceps and kept hoping that it was not a serious issue.
“As soon as you see a jug standing on the hill like that and we have to go out, you always try to be positive, but you always assume the worst,” Martinez said. “Especially when they talk about their arm. Right now it’s a cramp, and hopefully that’s all it is.”
“I think we will have a good time,” Soroka said. “It’s just one of the things where it’s not something you want to feel and not something worth ripping through, especially at that point in the game and at this time of the season.”
