Bo Bichette met a game-winning victim fly at the top of the 11th before Nick Sandlin hit a 1-2-3 inning at the bottom of the frame and lifted the visiting Toronto Blue Jays to a 2-1 victory over Boston Red Sox on Wednesday.
After shopping for a single first inning runs, no team until Toronto took the lead on the 11th. The automatic runner Ernie Clement move to third on Nathan Luke’s Grounder to shortly before he scored on Bicette’s fly to the middle.
The team combined for only 10 hits, with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (3-for-5) and Andres Gimenez (2-for-3) who log five of Toronto’s six.
Jay’s Starter Kevin Gausman knocked out 10 and allowed only four hits and one unforeseen driving in eight rounds. Jeff Hoffman (1-0) found three in two rounds of relief, which led Toronto to a third straight victory to open the four-game series. Sandlin registered his first rescue of the season.
Boston Bathers knocked out 14 times. Rafael Devers (2-for-5, two doubles) and Alex Bregman (RBI) were major contributors.
Red Sox had a great game -winning chance on the 10th. Triston Casa’s leadership grounds moved the automatic runner Bregman to third, but Hoffman knocked out two, including Kristian Campbell to end the inning.
The last hit for one of the teams was a guerrero single to start ninth.
Blue Jays Tagged Tanner Huck for three consecutive singles in the first. Guerrero started the string with an Infield -Knock and came in for the opening run at Will Wagner’s groundout to others.
Jarren Duran wasted some time to get the hosts back in the game at the bottom of the inning. He got the bond run on Bregman’s sacrificial fly after losing a lead single from Gausman, steals others and advanced to third on a subsequent throwing error.
Houck finished 6 2/3 rounds of five-hit, one-run ball in its longest beginning of the young season. He knocked out two and went two.
Devers led by Boston’s fourth with a line double to the middle. Gausman bounced back to knock out three in a row and began a distance of five consecutive strikes.
