Toronto Blue Jay’s left -hander Easton Lucas is scheduled to set his unnoticed record on the line Monday evening against the visitors Atlanta Braves.
Lucas is 2-0 with one 0.00 era after his first two starts of the season-first starters of his big league career. The 28-year-old will make his 17th Major League look.
“You hope it’s one of these feel good stories, right?” Toronto Manager John Schneider said. “He has done a really good job of taking advantage of all available resources and understanding, at this time in his career, how his stuff works and really how good he can be.
“I’ve said it before, we’ve wanted him since the first time we saw him. He has some speed and he runs with it. It happens at different times for people.”
Lucas has allowed four hits and three walks with 11 strikes in 10 1/3 rounds over the two starters. He has not yet met Braves in his career.
“I have a lot of confidence in where I throw my places,” Lucas said. “It was kind of something that clicked at the end of spring training. I struggled to command my quick ball last year and just handle the adrenaline. So this year I have focused on being under control and ordered my quick ball. After that it opens everything else.”
Lucas was claimed by exceptions from the Detroit Tigers in August last year.
The fighting Braves are scheduled to start the right hand Grant Holmes (0-1, 4.00). He has met Blue Jays at one time and allowed three runs on five hits in two -thirds of an inning of relief last season.
Blue Jays comes from a 4-5 road trip that ended on Sunday with a 7-6 victory in 10 rounds over Baltimore Orioles.
Toronto shared two matches at Baltimore after the series opener on Friday was postponed.
The first bass man Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Have not yet met a home run this season after going 2-for-5 with an RBI (his seventh) on Sunday. He also committed a two-run error.
Also worrying for Toronto is George Springer, who left the game on Sunday with what is described as discomfort in the left wrist, the result of swings as he knocked out in the fifth round. -rays were negative.
“A bit of a zinger, best possible results so far,” Schneider said.
Springer beats .375 with a 1,040 Ops, two homers and 10 RBI.
Braves is still trying to be unlocked after losing 8-3 to Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday in the rubber match in a three-game series. Braves is 4-11 after starting the season 0-7.
“I’m half full because we have too much baseball to play,” said Brave Manager Brian Snitker. “We’ve seen it in recent years, we can also turn this thing and run off a good line. So we just have to hang out there and split it and take it one day at a time and go out and win a game tomorrow.”
Brave’s first bass man Matt Olson said that a focus on winning series.
“It’s the name of the game,” Olson said. “It’s the way of thinking we want to be in. Had a chance to (Sunday) and just get away there in the end. It’s really the baseline for it. We must continue to try to win series. Come to Toronto, have a good series, bring it home, get it rolling.”
