Cade Cunningham collected 25 points and 12 assists to lead a balanced Detroit attack when Pistons took responsibility during the third quarter and walked to a 125-110 victory over the short hand Antonio Spurs on Friday in Austin, Texas.
The game was the second on two nights for Spurs in Texas Capital, their home from home and eighth of their 12-game Rodeo Road Trip. San Antonio, who played without Star Center Victor Wembanyama, was worse for wear, ending gasoline during the second half after led by as many as 10 points late in the second quarter.
Detroit, who leveled a season pile with his fifth straight victory, took the lead on a Cunningham 3-pointer just before halftime and extended its advantage to 101-80 at Malik Bealesley’s 3-pointer by 34 seconds to play during the third quarter.
The spurs never made a fee in the fourth and lost for the second time in the last three matches.
Tobias Harris added 22 points, Jalen Duren took up 21 points and 15 returns and Beasley had 16 points for Detroit.
Keldon Johnson led San Antonio with 28 points from the bench while De’aaron Fox added 27, Stephon Castle had 12 and Sandro Mamulashvili got 10.
The pistons took responsibility early, broke away from a 2-2-tie with an 11-0 run completed by Cunningham’s driving hook shot at the 8: 49 mark for the first quarter and led 36-27 after 12 minutes of play.
The spurs came back in the match with a 12-3 run to start the second quarter and took his first lead when Chris Paul preserved a 3-pointer on the 7: 55 brand. San Antonio reached his advantage to 10 on a three -point game by Fox with 3:23 left.
