Calum hoodLongtime Bassist in 5 seconds of the summer, makes a powerful entry into the solo territory with its debut single “Don’t Forget You Love Me”, now via Capitol Records. The track acts as a striking foreplay to its first solo album, Order chaos orderArrives June 13.
The hood is best known for its silent intensity and atmospheric songwriting in 5sos, Hood deals the band’s arena -talented hymns for something much more intimate: Film melancholy and peeled vulnerability. Co-written with Jack Lafrantz (Benson Boone) and produced with Hitmakers TMS (Lewis Capaldi, Ed Sheeran, Nialtaran), the only mixes the 80s synth-sprouted nostalgia with a modern emotional border.
But it is Hood’s voice – husky, raw and unexpectedly naked – that anchors the track and gives its emotional weight. Instead of tipping heart damage, he fades into it. “I have tried enough to call you / and I am afraid you will pick up,” He sings, each line shakes with guilt, sadness and blue -marked sincerity. “Because I know I don’t want you to /” for baby to have to own up / to everything I’ve done to you. ” This is not performance. It is a desperate basis for understanding, wrapped in debt warehouses, fear and aching sincerity.
But this contrast feels intentional and deeply personal. As Calum Hood puts it, the album was born “in a dryer of knowing and not knowing.” “I started with a vision – order – but quickly became overwhelmed by the process – chaos. Eventually I learned to embrace both.” He shares in a statement.
What emerged from that chaos is a variety of work that is rooted in pain, introspection and unfiltered liability – a strong deviation from the polished confidence in 5SOS’s arena. Order chaos order Sufficiently in the quietest corners of Hood’s life: his upbringing, his family and the often invisible importance of fame. These are stories he has never been able to tell – to date….
“Don’t forget that you love me” not only mark a new chapter – it feels like the book has been broken wide open. And if the rest of the album continues in these years, it will not only be a strong debut by an artist. It will be a rare moment in pop where vulnerability is not a detour – it is the destination.
