Vancouver Canuck’s goalkeeper Thatcher Demko is considered week to week with a lower bodily injury, said a spokesman for the team Tuesday.
Demko will not join the Canucks on his five-game road trip out of the four nations’ facial outages. The team will evaluate him after returning from the trip, which ends March 1 on the rival Seattle Kraken.
Demko, last season’s runner for the Vezina trophy who honored the NHL’s best goalkeeper, did not make his season debut until December 10 due to a knee issue that pops up during the playoffs 2023-24. According to Athletic, Demko’s current issue is not in that knee. He only played 32 games the year before due to a groin injury.
Once All-Star was 6-6-3 with a 2.87 goal-to average and a .891 Savings percentage in 17 matches (all starts) this season.
Demko, 29, was prepared by Vancouver in the second round of the 2014 draft and has played 236 career games (230 starts) for the club. He is 122-87-20 with a 2.80 GAA and a .911 for his career.
As Demko’s availability has fluctuated, Kevin Lankinen has made the best of her opportunities within the network. He is 19-8-7 with a 2.53 GAA and a .905 savings percentage in 34 matches (32 starts) this year. Vancouver will lean on him and third stricter Arturs Silovs for his five-game road trip, which begins this Saturday at Vegas.
Canucks recalled Silovs from AHL -connected Abbotsford on an emergency basis and also added a Praxi painter, Nikita Tolopilo, on Tuesday.
