St. Louis Cardinals right -field Jordan Walker will miss at least a week after suffering a minor knee injury when he went on a sprinkler head in a spring training game.
Walker, 22, ran down an airball against Washington Nationals on Tuesday when he was injured. He had a MRI later Tuesday that showed irritation in his left knee but no structural damage, Cardinal Manager Oliver Marmol told reporters on Wednesday.
“That’s what it is,” Marmol said. “We let it calm down for a week and then we ramp that child, and we still have time to see him in lots of (spring training) games.”
Walker was removed from the game, which the Cardinals won 6-4 in West Palm Beach, Fla. Marmol said Walker was relieved that the injury was not serious.
“He was perfectly good and what you can expect it would be,” Marmol said. “He wants to be there every day, but knowing this is just an inflammation that he needs to allow to calm down so he can come back to it, it is obviously a positive. He was good.”
6-foot-6 Walker is a career .255 Hitter in parts of the last two seasons with the Cardinals, with 21 home races and 71 RBI, a .317 base percentage and .423 sluggish percent in 168 matches.
The Cardinals chose Walker No. 21 in total in the draft 2020 MLB from Decatur (GA.) High School.
