St. Louis Cardinals opened spring training on Wednesday and the club still has not been able to buy the star third basseman Nolan Arenado.
The Cardinals have tried to move the 33-year-old without finding a roof and Arenado is currently scheduled to report to Camp in Jupiter, Florida, on Sunday.
St. Louis tried to work out a deal to buy Arenado for Houston Astros during the low season but Arenado rejected it.
“We are adults. Would it be awkward? I can imagine it would be a moment of troublesome, but I still think he is a professional baseball player and he is currently a St. Louis Cardinal, and we all understand when you Is here, you “I drive forward,” said Cardinals General Manager John Mozeliak. “Would that mean trying to achieve something during spring training? Possibly, but there are no guarantees at that point. “
Arenado, an eight times all-star, underperformed poorly last season with an average of .272, 16 homers and 71 RBI in 152 matches.
With at least 30 home races in seven of 12 MLB seasons, Arenado has spent the last four with St. Louis after eight campaigns with Colorado Rockies. He has three years left on his contract.
Arenado gave the Cardinals a list of five teams he would consider for a potential trade. They are reportedly New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Angels.
“In the end, I didn’t have a big list of teams, and it wasn’t like there were 29 teams I could take him to, so I was trying to navigate what I could work with,” Mozeliak said. “Of course, it has not moved as many of us had hoped for.”
The Cardinals allowed the veteran’s first bass man Paul Goldschmidt to leave via free agency after last season and now manager Oliver Marmol is waiting to see how things play with Arenado.
“You work as if he comes to the camp, and my conversations with (Arenado) until this point has been exactly that,” Marmol said. “Until this, there is no reason to plan to plan otherwise. So when we stand here today we have jugs and catchers here and we are focused on it. When we get to the positions that are here and a full camp, we ‘I will tackle it. ”
The Cardinals also learned on Wednesday that they shared two wage items, Brendan Donovan beat and lost to Lars Nootbaar.
Donovan will receive $ 2.85 million instead of the $ 3.3 million he applied. Nootbaar was awarded $ 2.95 rather than the team’s $ 2.45 archiving amount.
Nootbaar, 27, beat .244 with 12 Homers and 45 RBI in 109 games last season. Outfielder has an average of .246 with 45 homers and 146 RBI in 392 matches over one part of four large league seasons, all with the cardinals.
Donovan, 28, met .278 with 14 homers and 73 RBI in 153 matches last season. The tool player has an average of .280 with 30 homers and 152 RBI in 374 matches in three seasons with St. Louis.
St. Loui’s right -wing dealer Andre Pallante heard his fall Wednesday. Pallante requested $ 2.1 million, while the Cardinals counteracted an offer of $ 1.925 million.
