After a phenomenal 2024, “HOT TO GO!” superstar Chappell Roan has been named in BBC Radio 1’s Sound of 2025 – the station’s annual poll to identify music’s biggest rising stars.
Chappell hit e.g. Ezra Collective, Barry Can’t Swim, Myles Smith and English Teacher and were named winners by a panel of more than 180 musicians and experts, including Sir Elton John, Dua Lipa and Sound of 2014 winner Sam Smith.
This year, the rules for the award were relaxed to acknowledge the challenges of achieving crossover success in the streaming era. To qualify, artists could not have had more than two UK Top 10 albums or two UK Top 10 singles by 30 September 2024.
Jack Saunders, who hosts Radio 1’s New Music show, said: “No one deserves this award more than Chappell Roan. She was the most exciting artist of the last 12 months and is now set to be the next 12 months artist.”

Chappell follows in the footsteps of artists including Adele, Sigrid, Years & Years, Celeste, Florence & The Machine, Jessie J, MIKA, Ellie Goulding, HAIM, The Last Dinner Party and FLO.
This new accolade caps off a sensational 12 months for Chappell, real name Kayleigh Amstutz. The singer-songwriter rose to stratospheric new heights last year following the global success of her singles ‘HOT TO GO!’, ‘Pink Pony Club’ and ‘Good Luck, Babe!’. She also topped the UK Albums Chart with her release, The Rise and Fall of the Midwestern Princess.
There’s no doubt that Chappell Roan will continue to go from strength to strength throughout 2025. She already has a string of headline festival appearances lined up, including Primavera Sound and Reading & Leeds Festival. In addition, she is nominated for six Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist, Album of the Year and Record of the Year.
