Thoughts on the final

DRAPER IWDRAPER IW

Draper dominated this one from start to finish, with Rune who won only two first service return points in the match and failed to create a single breaking point.

Tennisv showed an interesting graphic pre -match showing ATP’s “shot quality” metric, and Draper led in all areas throughout the tournament.

These statistics translated to the court as his heavy top spin advance, effective serving and overall games were very superior to the Danish, which was basically a spectator out there.

Rune had beaten draper in Cincinnati last year, and he entered the final after playing a tactically sharp match against Medvedev, but faith was quickly sucked out of him, released his first two service games in the match and never recovered.

While Rune was able to handle Medevedev’s baseline game easily, Draper took things up a notch with much heavier shots that he struggled to read. He was incorrect countless times and could not find anything to hold on to that could pull him back into the match.

Rune’s forehand also looked off; He never got a rhythm on that shot and almost had to muscle it on many points.

On the other hand, Draper hit the ball superb, moved well and used the left advantage to great power. He is now in the top 10, and it will be interesting to see how far up the ranking he can go.

It’s incredible. I did not expect this, I have put in a lot of work over time and I am just so grateful and so happy to be out here to be able to play, my body is healthy, to feel good in my mind. All the work I have done in recent years feels like it comes together on the big stage and I can’t put words into it. I feel I deserve it, in everything honestly. The amount of adversities I have gone through, the amount of sacrifices, the time that all people around me have put in me and the hard work. It is an emotional feeling to know how much you have gone through and put in, and to be here now to say that I will be No 7 in the world tomorrow, I can not say how much it means to me. I felt I was coming out, I was approaching the game well. Yesterday I had some ups and downs during the match, a little low energy against Carlos and I learned from it today. I knew Holger would come out and play really good tennis, so I needed to be aggressive and play to win from the first ball. I did a fantastic job with it and I didn’t allow him to play, and I just felt that I dictated the match really well. Draper on his last victory.

Can Draper make the sunshine doubled?
