Cain Velasquez, a former UFC -Tungweight champion, was sentenced to five years in prison for a shooting that occurred in February 2022.
Velasquez was sentenced in San Jose, California, on Monday. He had been on house arrest since November 2022 and will receive credit for the time.
In August, Velazquez appealed no competition against allegations of murder and abuse and arms charges.
The charges were the result of an incident in which Velasquez, 42, chased and shot at the vehicle to a man accused of rejecting the fighter’s son. The man’s relative, who was also in the vehicle, was shot and injured during the incident.
Renee M. Hessling, a lawyer for Velasquez, said in a statement to ESPN:
“All in all, Cain has shown courage and strength of nature. He has taken responsibility for his actions and has been held responsible.
“The meaning that has been decreased today reflects the complexity of the situation and recognizes the man behind the headings. When he is released, he will continue to lead by example – protect, contribute and take care of the people around him.”
