Calgary Flames started its current winning line with a road victory over Winnipeg Jets.
The flames must duplicate that urgency to continue their Run Whey, they end a quick two-game stay back in Winnipeg on Sunday.
Thanks to their 5-4 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Saturday, Flames rides a three-game-spree that has drawn them three points back by Los Angeles Kings for third place in Pacific Division.
“We played pretty well, 58 minutes was pretty good,” defender Rasmus Andersson said about his team’s victory over nature. “Obviously a little loose in the end, but overall quite satisfied with our game. Big two points.”
The flames reach Winnipeg who rides on a resuscitation of trust. They also play with a more balanced attack on late.
Martin Pospisil scored for the first time in 26 games and Clark Bishop scored in the NHL for the first time since December 7, 2018.
“It means a lot. When you can score and help the team win, it’s a good feeling,” said Bishop, who went in his second NHL game this season. “To get out on top it’s even better.”
In addition, Andrei Kuzmenko, who snapped a 28-game decline last time Flames was in Winnipeg-a two-goal excursion against nature. Kuzmenko, who scored 39 goals as a beginner with Vancouver 2022-23, doubled his goal in total for the season to four.
“He moved, and as he moves his feet he is around the puck,” coach Ryan Huska said about Kuzmo. “And when he’s around the puck he is very strong on it.”
The western conference -leading jet beams ride on a strong wave or their own.
Winnipeg is 6-2-1 in the last nine excursions after a 5-2 victory over the Utah Hockey Club on Friday,
The Utah victory, which reflects a story for Flames, contained a struggling player who snapped a downturn in a great way, with Cole Perfetti who netted his first career hat. He entered the collision without goals in 14 matches.
“Just trying to focus on the input, on the little things, on making every little detail as good as I can, and then the game will develop for you,” Permeti said. “And when it’s your night, (it) kind of just bounces your way. Haven’t had those bouncers lately, but just try to be consistent with my game. And you are eventually rewarded.”
“It’s fantastic, because you see that there is growth,” said Jets coach Scott Arniel about Perfeti. “When guys buy in what you preach and him recognize, no longer get away from the net but keep you close … so you have a winning hockey club.”
A winning club that will look for revenge against the flames in their third and final meeting of the season. Calgary claimed a 3-1 victory in Winnipeg just over a week ago; Jets won the first game 5-3 on October 26.
“I thought (Flame’s goalkeeper Dustin Wolf) saw a lot of what came to him,” Arniel said about the loss of January 18. “We can do a better job of screening him and removing his vision and it can help us get these numbers up.”
