Guard Silas Demary Jr., a two -year starter in Georgia, announced Thursday that he will be transferred to Uconn.

The 6-foot-5-Demarin averaged 13.5 points, 3.9 returns, 3.1 assists and 1.7 steals in 33 matches for Bulldogs this season.

Demary was one of the best guards in the transfer portal. He has two seasons of eligibility left.

“Silas is the kind of big guard we love at Uconn and we can’t wait to get him in the mix,” Huskie’s coach Dan Hurley said in a news message. “He can score goals from all three levels, play and use his length to protect several positions. Silas comes from a large family and will fit our championship culture to a tee.”

Demary improved his 3-point shooting accuracy from 30.3 percent as beginners to 37.4 percent as another. He also has 108 steals in 70 college games.

Demary placed a video on his social media accounts that describe his visit to Uconn and the decision. He told reporters on Thursday that the school’s legacy appealed to him.

“I wanted to be the next big point guard,” Demary told reporters at a conference call. “Of course, guys who won back-to-back, fantastic guards such as sad Newton, Stephon Castle, you look back even further-Shabazz Napier, Kemba Walker. I want to be part of one of these names. I want to be part of a program that has been about winning.”

Uconn won the following national championship before they were sent home by Florida in the second round of this year’s tournament.

Demary also visited St. John’s during his decision -making process.
