Francisco Lindor led the last two games with Homers, positive omens for New York Mets, which is bound for the big league’s best record entering their Tuesday home game against Philadelphia Phillies.
New York opened the three-game series with a 5-4 victory on Tuesday and got two long balls from Lindor. In addition to his first round shot, he belted a three-run Homer in the seventh round to set Mets up 5-0 on his way to their fifth victory in a row.
Lindor now has four homers in their last four matches. He followed up a 3-for-5 effort on Sunday against St. Louis Cardinals by going 2-for-3 with a walk on Monday.
“He’s free in a way where it is,” Do you know what? I will only be myself, “said Mets Manager Carlos Mendoza.” That’s what he is doing right now and he gets results. … …
“He wants to contribute so hard, and he wants it so bad for the team that I sometimes feel he can come in his own way. I feel that now, he is more like,” I just have to be myself. “That’s what he is doing right now, and he gets many results.”
Lindor hopes that the results will continue to come on Tuesday against Phillies starter Cristopher Sanchez (2-0, 2.96 era), which comes from a dominant outing Thursday in a 6-4 victory over San Francisco Giants.
Sanchez joined 12 in seven rounds, which allowed only four hits and three runs (two earned) while only issued a walk. He is 2-2 with a 3.62 era in nine career trips, six of them begin, against Mets.
While Sanchez and the Philadelphia rotation, apart from fighting Aaron Nola (0-5, 6,43), has done a permanent job, the bull has been inconsistent. Closer to Jose Alvarado has five rescues, while Matt Strahm (1.74 era) and Tanner Banks (2.70) have been sources of satisfaction.
But bullpens the rest? Former Toronto Blue Jays closer to Jordan Romano has been swung to a melody by a 15.26 era in nine excursions. Overall, the group’s ERA is 5.80 and it leads MLB with six blown savings, figures that do not yet affect manager Rob Thomson.
“I don’t,” he said when he asked if he thinks Phillies has a Bullpen problem. “Because it’s still a small sample size. I know we have really good arms, really good things out there. We have to continue working on it, continue to grind through it.”
The Monday game, which saw Jose Ruiz and his 6.75 era give up Lindor’s three-run blast, probably did not suffer from the Philadelphia fans. It was Phillie’s other straight defeat.
Mets will counteract Sanchez with Griffin Canning (2-1, 3.43 era). The right-hander comes from a 4-1 victory on Thursday towards St. Louis where he knocked out eight over six rounds while allowed only three hits, two walks and one run.
Canning has met Philadelphia only once in his career, when he arose with a decision on Los Angeles Angels on April 29, 2024. In five rounds he allowed four runs on three hits and five walks with a strike.
