A pair of Atlantic Coast Conference team that wants to form rare winning stripes will meet Tuesday when Georgia Tech visits Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.
Notre Dame (9-10, 3-5 ACC) has won two of three matches after a four-game losing line. The ski started with a loss of 86-75 at Georgia Tech on December 31. Fighting Irish has not won in a row since 7, 11 and 22, but they are fresh from their 74-59 road victory on Saturday at Virginia.
Notre Dame received 21 points from Markus Burton, who went 7 out of 14 from the field and 4 out of 6 on 3-point attempts. Fighting Irish was 12 out of 23 from long reach, which coach Micah Shrewsberry felt encouraging.
“We’re a really good 3-point shooting team,” said Shrewsberry. “We just need to shoot more of them. We have to find ways to get more attempts.”
Notre Dame shoots 37.6 percent from long reach of the season, good for third in the ACC.
Burton leads the team with 19.9 points per match, followed by Tae Davis (16.4) and Braeden Shrewsberry (14.7).
Georgia Tech (9-11, 3-6) finished his seasonal four-game losing line on Wednesday and beat the visit Virginia Tech 71-64. The yellow jackets had to play undermanned, a theme for most of the season.
Georgia Tech has been without Kowacie Reeves Jr. (9.3 points per match) Since November and Luke O’Brien (6.4 ppg) since December. The latest battle has been the absence of leading goal scorers Lance Terry (15.8 PPG), which has missed two of the last three games with a hand injury and then the flu.
Still, head coach Damon Stoudamire has believe in all the players he puts on the track.
“This has been a strange year, but for me it has been fun,” said Stoudamire. “You are just trying to get creative to handle games and stay in play. But if we are at a striking distance at the end, I think we can win with sex, seven guys. I think we have enough. I really do.”
Javian McCollum points 13.1 points per match and Baye Ndongo is an average of 11.7 points and 7.5 returns.
The yellow jackets try for their third winning line of the season. They took three in a row before their last picture.
