Grizzlie’s fire trainer Taylor Jenkins despite 44-29 records

Memphis Grizzlies fired head coach Taylor Jenkins on Friday despite the club’s record 44-29.

The grizzlies entered the day bound with the Los Angeles Lakers for the fifth best record in the Western Conference.

Jenkins, 40, has compiled a record of 250-214 with three playoffs since he was hired in June 2019.

“I really appreciate Taylor’s contribution to this team and this city over the past six seasons,” said Grizzlie’s president and Director General Zach Kleiman in a statement. “This was a difficult decision given the consistent and concrete development of our players and overall success under Taylor’s leadership. I wish Taylor the best in the future.”

Memphis turned things around this season after a 27-55 campaign 2023-24, which was damaged by the absence of star guard yes morant for 73 matches due to injury and suspension.

Grizzlies comes from a loss of 125-104 in Oklahoma City on Thursday evening and extends a decline that has seen them release five of the last seven games.

Jenkins signed a multi-year contract extension with Grizzlies in June 2022. He previously worked as an assistant coach with Milwaukee Bucks (2018-19) and Atlanta Hawks (2013-18).

He resigns as the winning coach in Grizzlie’s story. Lionel Hollins held the former Franchise record with 214 wins.

Grizzlies hosted Lakers in a crucial Western Conference game on Saturday.
