Sebastian Aho and Sean Walker scored goals from the third period to lead Hurricanes to a 3-1 road victory over San Jose Sharks on Thursday, Karolina’s eighth victory in a row.
The hurricanes (42-22-4, 88 points) are on the eighth winning line of eight or more matches in franchise history, with two of these runs coming this season. Carolina also won eight directly from October 22-Nov. 7. The franchise record is an 11 game run during the 2022-23 season.
With the point tied 1-1 at 4:58 in the third period, Aho delivered its ninth game-winning goal of the season. Walker extended the lead by converting a point shot 14:18 to the final frame.
Seth Jarvis scored Karolina’s other goals. He has four goals and two assists over a six-game points.
Frederik Andersen stopped 24 out of 25 shots to earn his 10th victory in 15 starts this season.
William Eklund gathered the only goal for the sharks, which is 1-5-0 in the last six matches. San Jose (18-42-9, 45 points) is in the last place in the NHL position.
In his first career start and only his fourth NHL game, Georgi Romanov looked sharp while stopping 26 out of 29 Carolina shoots.
San Jose opened the point with an unusually short -handed goal 13 minutes into the first period. Eklund tried a shot when he was taken down by Hurricane’s defender Brent Burns and sent both Eklund and the puck into Carolina’s net.
The game was originally whistled dead as a tripping penalty on Burns, but the judges decided that the puck crossed the line before Eklund unloaded the net. A follow-up video confirmed Eklund’s first career in short-haired goals for his four NHL seasons.
Jarvis delivered the equalizer at 10:31 in the second period. A turnover deep at the end of the sharks resulted in a loose puck in front of the net, and Jarvis converted a quick shot for his team -leading 27th goal.
Jackson Blake had a goal that was painted on an offside challenge during the second period, but Blake stopped helping the hurricane’s actual progress. Blake set up Aho for a large one-hour from the high place that beat Romanov.
