No. 2-seeds Swiatek in Poland and No. 4 seeds Jessica Pegula quickly did work on her third rounds at the GDP Paribas Open on Sunday in Indian Wells, Calif.
Swiatek, the defending champion, needed only 66 minutes to sweep Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska 6-0, 6-2. Swiatek won the first ten matches in the match to get close to a double bagel before Yastremska won on their last two serving.
Swiatek went 16-for-20 on its first service points and never had a breaking point. She also won more first returns (19) than Yastremska had first serving points (13) in a complete dominance.
The former world # 1 told reporters that the surface of Indian Wells is suitable for her game.
“Sure, I feel it makes it more visible, the top spin that I play,” Swiatek told reporters. “But I still have to play it. My game fits the surface here, yes. The surface helps, but that’s not the only thing. You still have to do the job.”
In order not to be surpassed, Pegula Kina’s Xinyu Wang 6-2, 6-1 in just 62 minutes. Pegula converted 5 out of 7 breaking points while saved 3 out of 4 that she met.
It was a sign that she is building on speed on her first title 2025 last week at the ATOpen in Austin, Texas.
“A super cleaning on my side,” Pegula said. “Just getting off a week with winning gives you so much trust. Make you more match-tough, play the big points really well, check the matches. I’m just riding that momentum right now.”
Pegula’s next opponent will be Ukrainian No. 23 Seed Elina Svitolina, which topped No. 14 Seed Danielle Collins 6-2, 6-4.
No. 7 Seed Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan struck no. 25 seed Katie Bouls from the UK 6-0, 7-5. Other winners included Czech 15th seed Karolina Muchova and Ukrainian 18th seed Marta Kostyuk.
Two matches remained on schedule Sunday evening: No. 9 Seed Andreeva from Russia against No. 22 Frö Clara Tauson from Denmark, and Chinese eighth seed Qinwen Zheng against New Zealands Lulu Sun.
