Indian Wells 2025 Day 3 Recap

Day three on 2025 GDP Paribas Open saw the upper seeds get into the battle, and we were treated with some very interesting matches.

The first was the top seed Alexander Zverev’s poor molding, which continued when he lost to Tallon Griekspoor in three sets.

Fourth seed Casper Ruud was today’s second highest profiled victim and gave in to the local guy Marcos Giron, also in three sets.

Other seeds to fall were Tomas Machac (19), who retired against Yosuke Watanuki and Jiri Lehecka (21), who lost to 2021 champion Cameron Norrie.

Seed winners of the day included Daniil Medvedev, who claimed that this year’s area is the slowest court he has ever played on 🤣

While Tsitsipas, Paul, Rune, Musetti, Tiefoe, Humbert, Fils, Popyrin Berrettini, Perricard and Michelsen, everyone got stuck in the script to move into the third round.

Griekspoor takes out Zverev

Sascha Zverev entered Indian wells as the number one seed, but after a subpar golden turn in South America, his poor form continued and lost to Tallon Griekspoor in a three hour battle.

Griekspoor is far from a quiet opening struggle (he just made the semi-final in Dubai), and he came through 4-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) to record his second victory against the German in eight matches.

Zverev started the match well, and he looked prepared for victory after collecting from 2-5 down to 6-5 in the second set, but he failed to serve it.

Griekspoor exploited the moment of momentum and forced a tie-break where Zverev’s uncharacteristic error allowed him to compare the match.

Like Zverev in the set two, the Dutchman was on the edge of 6-5 victory in the third but wasted five match points before finally sealed the victory on his sixth opportunity in the crucial tie-break to record his first career Top 5 victory.

It is another setback for Sascha, and his forehand looks even ropier than usual since Australia. He either plays it shyly as half a court or goes for it, and it flies out. He recently switched rackets from Gravity Pro to the tour, which has a thicker beam. Is it playing a role?

My own “conspiracy theory” is that Zverev as a student is not a big fan of being number 1 in the world when you have not won a Grand Slam. So he does not lose intention; It’s conscious there.

It was such a mental thing. I lost for him five times last year and had absolute heart damage at Roland Garros where I was on a double break in the fifth. Played so many battles against him and had chances but they all went his way. I am extremely proud of myself from this performance and to get it across the line. Giron Roads Ruud

Marcos Giron pulled off the biggest victory in his career when he sent Casper Ruud 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-2 to reach the third round of Indian Wells for the second time.

Giron is a UCLA degree, so he knows the conditions well, and Ruud has never really been so good in Indian wells. He has also struggled with some stomach problems since Acapulco and looked out of gasoline in the third.

The American saved four points points of 4-5 in the opening set before lining the tie and later dominated behind his servant in the decision, moved to a 5-0 lead and won 80% of his first serving points (12/15).

It was a fantastic win. It will be one I see back on with fantastic memories. Doing this on my favorite tournament is special. It was the tournament I came to when I was younger and it was a fantastic atmosphere. Giron at Hnis Win.

Other matches of notes

Daniil Medvedev, leggings and everyone came through his opener on a chilly Friday night and rolled past China’s bu yunchaokete 6-2, 6-2 to reach the third round.

Stefano’s Tsitsipas extended his winning line to sex with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Thiago Seyboth Wild. Next is a blockbuster -showdown with Matteo Berrettini, which Tsitsipas defeated last week on his way to the Dubai title.

No. 12 Seed Holger Rune cruised past Corentin Moutet 6-2, 6-4. He is now facing 18th seeds Ugo Humbert, with a strong 10-3 record 2025, including a title in Marseille.

The craziest match regarding the results line was between Damir Dzhumur and Frances Tiefoe. Dzhumur served for the first set of 5-4, twice for the second set of 5-1 and 5-3. And then had four set points in the second set of tiebreak. 3 of them from 6-3 up. Yet he lost 6-7, 6-7 to Frances Tiefoe. Brutal.
