Alcaraz destroys Dimitrov

Carlos Alcaraz proved deadly on Wednesday and dismantled Grigor Dimitrov 6-1, 6-1 under windy conditions to move within three wins from a historical Indian well Trev turf.

I had a feeling that Dimitrov would not offer much resistance, as his track record this season has been tormented by pensions, which point to physical problems. A long match vs Monfils really didn’t help his cause.

However, Alcaraz has been flying, and he delivered his sharpest performance under the lamps at Stadium 1, released only two matches and saved the three break points to develop in 1 hour and 14 minutes. Windy!

He then faces Francisco Cerúndolo, who defeated Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-3 earlier in the day.

It is really difficult to play against Grigor. He is a really talented player. He can do whatever he wants with the ball. Today with the conditions it was really tough for both. I had to survive. I always say under these conditions, you have to survive no matter what. I am very happy that I could play long rally. I got a good rhythm, even with the conditions, so I’m just really happy to get through. I’ve seen his [Cerundolo’s] matches. I know he is playing well. I don’t know which his best surface, I don’t know if it’s mud or hard. He plays really well on each surface. It shows the player he is. He is a really complete player, he can play really good tennis on each surface. I have to be really focused on it, I have to be ready. I think I’m getting better and better. I love Indian wells, I love this court. So I’m just ready to take the challenge. Alcaraz on his win and upcoming match.

Draper Folier Fritz

Jack Draper landed one of his biggest victories in the season and knocked out former champion Taylor Fritz 7-5, 6-4 to reach GDP Pariba’s Open Quarter finals for the first time.

Fritz has not played well in recent weeks, and I thought his forehand has seen “off” in Indian wells. Even a new hairstyle did not change his wealth, as Draper, whose game fits these conditions, took command of the match by winning seven straight matches from 4-5 in the first set to 4-0 in the second.

Fritz fought well, but he could never get on top from the baseline when Draper won 91% of the score behind his first serving (32/35) and closed the match in 79 minutes.

I felt good. It is the best match I have played here so far during the three years I have been here. I was happy with how I was sharp. I moved well and competed well. There were a few moments here and there that I was brave, that I talked to my coach about before the match. When you have chances against these types of players. Taylor is such an amazing player, so to get through the way I did I am very proud of it. Draper on his victory over Fritz.

Ben Shelton defeated other American Brandon Nakashima 7-6 (6), 6-1. The 22-year-old continued his perfect record against the 32nd seed and improved to 4-0 in H2H, rejecting. The first set was a narrow deal, but Nakashima made some tame errors on the back of the switch, which allowed Shelton to take command.

Francisco Cerúndolo is usually more at home in Miami, where he is a former semi-finalist, but he reached the last eight in Indian wells for the first time and upset ninth seed Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-3.
