Alcaraz bursts Cerundolo

Alcaraz Indian wellsAlcaraz Indian wells

Carlos Alcaraz met his toughest test of Indian wells so far on Thursday after releasing Francisco Cerundolo 1-4 in the second set.

But the Spaniard is very capable of going on a complete clearing, and he rolled away three straight matches to the level before taking the control in Tie-break, closed a hard-fighted 6-3, 7-6 (4) victory to keep his title defense fixed in life and kick.

Cerundolo usually plays better in the second part of the sunshine twice, but he was delivered in Indian Wells this week, and I thought he was playing a pretty solid match.

Alcaraz’s variety was a little too much for him in the first set, but in the second Argentine began to come on top and force Carlos to play reactive tennis when he forged his lead. Especially his forehand does a lot of damage.

But Carlos raised his level and returned to more of an attacking flow, which allowed him to get back level, and from there he had control.

Today was about survival. Trying to get a good rhythm, a good pace in the match, trying to take the opportunities he brought to me. I’m proud of everything I’ve done today. Tennis is about winning the winnings. It doesn’t matter how you do it. You are not thinking about playing good tennis every match, every day. This kind of matches, you have to get through the level you have that day. It is about good behavior, mental strength, just to stay there all the time, try to get a good rhythm. I didn’t hit the ball as clear as yesterday, for example, but I just did what I had to, and that’s what tennis is about. Alcaraz on his win.

Medvedev is fighting outside the files

Medvedev inMedvedev in

The best match in the last sixteen, perhaps even the tournament so far, saw Daniil Medvedev fight through a tough challenge from Arthur Fils, collect from 2-4 down in the third set to secure a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7) victory and move on to BNP Pariba’s open semifinals for the third straight year.

The fifth seed must overcome swirling winds and an aggressive opponent to stay in battle for his first title 2025 when he looks to bounce back from a disappointing for the last twelve months.

Fils, now up to the 18th world, used his heavy top spin advance and chose an attacking style, moved into the network for possible opportunities, and it paid off, as he won 61% (22/36) pointing up there.

But in its typical style, it soaked it up from the baseline and used his trademark provision ability to find a way through.

He came up with a funky-looking advance on driving at the match point, which surprised files, and he could only block the volley beyond the baseline.

Check his celebration at the match point, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him so happy. It was almost as exuberant as some of Fil’s parties after winning points or games. Top trolling 😁

I lost many tight matches this year where I could have won, should have won maybe. I have lost many tight matches where it goes a little 50-50 and the more it goes, the more you can lose confidence in the narrow moments. I was glad I could get over the line when he saved some match points and had a break lead in the third. I’m just happy to win. The match was very tough because of the wind. It was difficult to play tactically, technically. Anyone who gets a little more of a swirl of wind, they can frame it and it’s a little luck. I knew he had a break in the third and I knew I could break back and that was what I managed to do. He can play well. He is a top player. Maybe a little up and down still because he is a young player. But when he is in the neighborhood or Semis he plays well. Medvedev on his win.

DRAPER SILENCES SHELTON

Jack Draper IWJack Draper IW

It is not often that you get two large neighborhoods that go H2H in the quarters to a Masters 1000, but we got it on Wednesday when Jack Draper came through Ben Shelton 6-4, 7-5 to reach his first ATP Masters 1000 semi-finals.

The 23-year-old Brit has thrived under the desert conditions, and he was the stronger player in the opening set when he took thanks to a single service without meeting any difficulties on his serve.

Shelton used his fast, athletic game to strike back in the other to create a 3-0 lead, but Draper fought back when Shelton’s texture won, highlighted by two critical double errors at 5-5 in the second set, including at the breaking point.

I didn’t know what to expect today, frankly. I had met with legs maybe once or twice, but very short methods. I have obviously seen a lot of him, he’s an incredible showman [with] Weapons … can meet a winner anywhere. The serving is obviously huge. He is a big competitor and he has been really consistent. I knew it would be really difficult today to get out here before him on this court in front of the Americans. Huge respect for him, hugely credits him. He will continue to win, continue to have an amazing career, so I wish him all the best Drapes on their winnings.

Rune battles fits griekspoor

Rune IwRune Iw

Holger Rune is in a revival form of form at GDP Paribas Open and Rally past Tallon Griekspoor 5-7, 6-0, 6-3 on Thursday to reach its first semi-final 2025.

Rune, who once had a formidable record at the M1000 level, has fought for form over the past year or so but has now found its track in Indian wells.

His return has been particularly impressive this week, and he broke Griekspoor, which has an excellent serving, six times and dominated the last two sets.

It was tough mentally to play against him. It was raining this morning so we couldn’t warm up too much and he began to find his time. He played really well in the first set. I didn’t have the same feeling I had against Stef but I had to find a way and I changed my tactics during the match and it made it harder for him. I’m glad I could stay composed. Rune on his victory over the Greek track.
