Jorge Polanco went 3-for-3, including a tiebreaking two-run Homer with one out at the bottom of the eighth round, when Seattle Mariners defeated the visiting athletics 4-2 in the season opener on Thursday evening.
Randy Aroz arena also went deep for the sailors and Tyler Suderstrom met a pair of solo -females for athletics.
Suderstrom led from the eighth round by lining a first pitch, hanging slider from Reliever Trent Thornton just over the right-wing wall to give A’s 2-1 lead.
The mariners tied it with one at the bottom of the inning on the Arozarenas solo shot from the facade of the other tire in the left field towards Jose Leclerc. After a walk to Luke Raley deposited Polanco Leclerc’s quick ball over the wall in the midfield to give Seattle its first lead.
Thornton got the victory and Andres Munoz worked ninth for the rescue.
For the most part, the opener was a pitching duel between the right-handers Luis Severino and Logan Gilbert.
Severino spent the first nine seasons of his career in New York – eight with Yankees and last year with Mets – before signing with the A’s during the off -season. On Thursday he threw six speechless innings and allowed three hits, went four and knocked out six.
Suderstrom broke a speechless tie with one out in the fifth round and hammered a hanging slider from Gilbert 432 feet over the fence in direct center field.
It was the lonely mistake of Gilbert, who started his first opening day. The right -hander allowed only two hits over seven rounds, without walks and eight strikes.
Mariners put runners on the base in each of the first six rounds against Severino but could not convert.
They finally broke through against Reliever Tyler Ferguson in the seventh and binds the point without the advantage of a bass.
Ryan Bliss and JP Crawford led off with walks and Victor Robles squared around to bundle. Robles missed the ball, like A’s Catcher Shea Langeliers, with the ball that rolled to Backstop.
Bliss tried to make points from others and was originally guided safe, but a video scene decided that his lead foot bounced with dirt and did not move on the plate while Ferguson applied the tag. Crawford took the third on the game and scored on Robles sacrificial fly to the center.
