Julia Michaels and Maren Morris team up for new single ‘Scissors’

Singer-songwriters Julia Michaels and Maren Morris have teamed up again for a new collaboration called ‘Scissors’.

The breezy offering discusses being able to easily cut off a cheating ex, with the pair singing: “You wanna say goodbye? I don’t cry rivers/ if you wanna cut a tie/ I’ll take the scissors, baby.” Julia and Maren’s vocals complement each other perfectly, with the pair delivering a delicious mix of sweetness and swagger as they prepare to say goodbye to the latest time waster in their lives.

Speaking about the song, Julia told ABC Audio: “I’ve had ‘Scissors’ written down in my notes in my phone – I just thought it would be a fun way to say I don’t care. You know, just like” Hey, I’m actually not as sensitive as you might think I am. If you want to stay, cool. If not, I won’t cry.’”

“Scissors” comes accompanied by a Blythe Thomas-directed video that sees the pair get revenge on Julia’s on-screen love interest. Channeling their inner Edward Scissorhands, Julia and Maren get ready to perform surgery with a tiny pair of scissors…

‘Scissors’ marks Julia and Maren’s second collaboration, after the song ‘cut!’ from 2024. Despite having similar sounding names, the tracks were written separately and are simply the result of “cosmic divinity”.

Speaking to the Rolling Stones, Julia said: “It was just a wonderful and silly coincidence when these duets met.” Maren added, “They were separate entities, but it felt like cosmic divinity that the titles mirrored each other.”
