Julian Reese Driver No. 13 Maryland past Northwest

In her last home game, Julian Reese collected 19 points and 11 returns to drive No. 13 Maryland to a victory 74-61 over Northwestern, Saturday in College Park, MD.

Ja’kobi Gillespie scored 17 points and Derik Queen added 10 points and 10 returns when Terrapins (24-7, 14-6 Big Ten) won for the seventh time in their last eight games.

Rodney Rice and Selton Miguel, who were also honored on Senior Day, delivered 11 points per piece for Maryland, who avenge a previous overtime defeat on the Northwestern.

Terrapins overwhelmed Wildcats on the boards, 45-23, which helped them overcome 18 turnover.

With the victory, Terrapins dressed a double-bye in next week’s big ten tournament. They open Friday in the quarter finals.

Nick Martinelli produced 28 points and seven returns for Northwestern (16-15, 7-13), which plays Wednesday in the opening round of the conference tournament.

For Berry received 10 points for Wildcats, which hit 36.4 percent of their shots, including 4 out of 19 (21.1 percent) from 3-point intervals.

Maryland responded with 42.3 percent shooting from the floor and 7-AV-16 (43.8 percent) accuracy from depth.

Early in the match, Martinelli scored six of the points in an 11-2 run that gave Northwestern a 13-8 lead. A 3-point by Martinelli gave Wildcats their biggest lead in the game, 19-12.

Gillespie and Reese combined for all points when Maryland responded with an 8-0 driving to take a lead of 20-19.

After failing to score in the first 15 minutes, Queen counted eight points for the rest of the half to help Terrapins to a lead of 32-29.

Northwestern took his lonely lead in the second half when Berry made a free throw with 13 minutes left, which made it 42-41.

Maryland responded with the next seven points to take the lead for good. Jordan Geronimo operated for a setback to trigger burst and Gillespie followed a 3-pointer.

During the last 8 minutes, Gillespie met a couple of triples and added four free throw when Terrapins stretched its lead.
